Essay Instructions: Research paper
Topic: Resilience on Early Childhood Development

The paper must be a minimum of 6 pages of writing with a minimum 5 references.
One of the references may come from a reliable Internet website or a book.
If you choose to use your textbook as the book, use it sparingly.
A textbook is a secondary source and you should be using primary sources. This does not include the professional psychological databases, such as ProQ uest, EBSCO Host, and so on.
At least 4 must be from professional research journals.
It is important that the focus of this paper be on research on the topic. This means you should be discussing the purpose of a study, sample and methodology, and results of the study.
The journals may be found on the Internet; however, they have to come from professional research journals.

Paper Requirements
You must have a cover page, abstract, and a list of references. These have to be in 6 th edition APA format. The 6 pages for your paper do not include the title page , abstract, or the list of references
The paper must be double spaced with one inch margins on all sides. Use Times Roman 12 point font (as suggested by 6th edition APA format).

Make sure you cite everything. None of this should be your opinion. Keep your biases out of the paper. I should not be able to determine what your view is by reading your paper.

Description: The purpose of this assignment is to learn about resiliency as a theory, as well as think about the possibility of losing a client/student to suicide and what you would need to maintain your own wellness.

First, you will read Resilience in the Face of Trauma. Pay particular attention to what the authors claim help people cope and their suggestions for therapists. Then read the Spiegelman and Werth article about losing a client to suicide and a suicide attempt. After reflection, write a 3 page paper.

The first part should:
1. Describe your sense of what resiliency is and (why do some people get through it easier than other? etc)
2. How to develop resiliency in yourself

The second part of the paper should:
1. Describe your ?wellness plan? in the event of a client/student suicide. What will you need to do for yourself; what will you need from others; etc.? How do you get through it? Include personal AND professional plans.

Your paper should be formatted in APA, double-spaced and in 12-point font with normal margins.

Grading Rubric:
Student has obviously read both articles; student has spent time reflecting on both articles and articulates well the application of the content to his/her work as a counselor; student has followed all directions, met the deadline, and the paper is relatively free of errors
