Essay Instructions: Interfaith Relations
Ben Ries a 31-year-old pastor of Sterling Drive Church of Christ in Bellingham, Washington. Committed to fasting from sunrise to sundown during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. Ries is beginning a new chapter in interfaith relations between Christians and Muslims. He sought a Muslim community through Google in effort to begin his Christian and Muslim fasting partnership. According to Ries “The goal is to join Muslims in the observance as” a God-honoring expression of peace, fellowship and neighborliness, “he wrote. Of course, this brings unease among some evangelicals, because Christians believe that Jesus is the son of God and Muslims believe Jesus was a prophet and a teacher. However, I believe that gestures like this bring understanding and understanding will bring tolerance and peace someday.
