Title: Inequality Within Organizations

Total Pages: 2 Words: 728 Works Cited: 2 Citation Style: APA Document Type: Essay

Essay Instructions: ? Inequality Within Organizations
Inequities exist in organizations, just as they do in society, however the majority of such inequities have become institutionalized and accepted as fair and legal, and have mainly gone unchallenged.
For example, the disparities in pay and tenure between male and female professors in institutions of higher learning are often dismissed without much, if any, consideration. This inequity is both a societal and an organizational issue. The literature confirms that organizations have a tendency to replicate themselves and women still earn about 30% less than their male counterparts for performing the same work. This is but one example of a ubiquitous organizational inequity.
In this Application Assignment, you are asked to identify an organizational inequity and consider how it impacts individuals and how it can be corrected.
To prepare for this assignment:
Review Chapters Nine and Ten of The Responsible Administrator. Refresh yourself with the ethical decision-making model and consider what is required of responsible administration.
Review this week's course media, "Equality and Equity: Applications," and focus on issues related to equal access and equal opportunity employment. Consider how responsible and ethical behaviors can help to ensure fairness and equality.
Reflect on your role as an administrator or on the role to which you aspire.
Think about an inequity in your organization.
Consider how this inequity impacts the employees, volunteers, and/or clients of the organization.
Consider how you might remedy the inequity using the ethical decision-making model presented in the course text (Chapters Two and Nine).
Think about the factors that would constrain or facilitate implementation of this remedy.
The assignment: (1-2 pages)
Describe an equity issue that exists in your organization.
Analyze its impact on the people within the organization and those it serves.
Recommend solutions to the equity issue using the decision-making model.
Explain any factors that you think would constrain or facilitate implementation of your recommendations.

Support your Assignment with specific references to all resources used in its preparation

Essay Instructions: Inequality and politics intersect in complex ways in the
workplace. Although minorities and women are the
fastest growing part of the U.S. labor force, older white
males continue to enjoy advantages in pay, promotion,
and power. Workplace legalization levels the field to
some extent, but men tend to be more experienced
than racial minorities & women at playing office politics.
-Explain how corporations often use ineffective diversity practices that
express more symbolic than real commitments to affirmative action for
racial minorities? Why does Collins (2011) describe such corporate
behavior as a ?new form of institutional racism?? Do you agree; why?
-Which type(s) of social power are managers most likely to use that
reinforce existing workplace inequalities between white men and racial
minorities or women?
-What type(s) of social power, strategies & tactics could minority & female
employees use to gain greater power over their personal careers?
