Essay Instructions: My thesis statement is:
Hydraulic fracking of gas and oil wells in the northeast region of the United States is controversial, and it has the potential to create devastating and long lasting environmental damage and human health problems.

What I know?
Fracking is a way of drilling that is as of today not restricted by the government or the EPA and has made it possible to get deposits of methane gas from under ground in shale rock thousands of feet below ground, fossil fuels that had been unreached in other commercial drillings.
What I want to know?
What I want to know is how has this part of the country been effected by fracking?
What are the damaging affects on the environment caused by fracking?
How has fracking affected human health?
How has fracking polluted the region?
What has been proposed to the government or by the government as far as techniques and safety measures that would make fracking safer?






FORMAL RESEARCH PAPER FORMAT:

_ Length: 8-12 double-spaced pages, not counting the "Works Cited" page.

_ Body type size 12 pt. font, Arial or Times New Roman.

_ One-inch margins all the way around.

_ Header with your last name, space, and page number on each page after the first page.

_ Use a standard MLA Page One heading on the first page of the paper. NO cover page necessary.


RESEARCH FOLDER SHOULD CONTAIN:

_ Working annotated bibliography and source pages used in the paper.

_ Preliminary drafts of your research proposal, and of your formal research proposal.

_ Preliminary drafts of your outline, and of your formal outline.

_ Rough drafts of your Research Paper (all).

_ Rough drafts of your "Works Cited" page.

_ In short, all of the information collected and used in the preparation of assignment 3.





"WORKS CITED" PAGE CRITERIA:

_ Correct MLA format for traditional and electronic sources.

_ Ten sources minimum: Three books, three periodicals (magazines and/or journals), two newspaper articles, two other sources (interviews, surveys, Internet, videos, TV source, and so on).



DOCUMENTATION STYLE:

_ Conform to MLA format.
In-text, parenthetical citations for every quotation, summary, or paraphrase used in the body of the text, linked to the correct citation used on the "Works Cited" page. Remember, for a reference to appear in your Works Cited page it must first be used in the document as an in-text citation. Therefore, there must be a minimum of 10 separate in-text citations within your final document.

Essay Instructions: MS Word document, double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman, 1-inch margins, APA style.

Include a cover page, table of contents, body of the report, summary or conclusion, and works cited.

Check your work for spelling and grammar. Carefully proofread your paper for spelling and grammar and double check all citations for accuracy. Be sure you have correctly cited all references.

Essay Instructions: Planning for Successful Advocacy Campaigns

Groups who advocate for change have the greatest impact if they have a plan. Whether basic or elaborate, effective plans must be accomplishable. In successful advocacy campaigns, plans help establish the goals and objectives along with other essential elements of planning such as the campaign?s message, purpose, and media strategies. While goals and objectives may differ among various public health advocacy groups, similar strategies and tools are often used. For instance, many campaign plans include similar media strategies and communication techniques for reaching the target audience, but the goal of the campaign might range in focus from childhood obesity to fracking or elderly care.

To prepare for this Discussion:

?Review the Freeman et al. article and the advocacy campaign examples ?Indiana Campaign for Smoke Free Air? and ?One International.? Reflect on each campaign?s plan, including elements such as goals, objectives, message, purpose, and media strategies.
