My chosen topic is: Chemical Dependency within the history of Psychology, primarily alcoholism. Use APA format. Make sure you begin by noting the importance of your topic area within the field of psychology. Make sure you note and explain the context in which the topic was born and developed. How changing times may have influenced topic area. Topics role in contemporary Psyc. Address the impact the area had on psychology, the impact today, and the prospects for future impact. Critically analyze shortcomings in the area chosen. Note how changing times have led to this area rising or falling in prominence. Finally, examine your topic within the framework of diversity...does the work extend well to cultures beyond the U.S. and Western Europe? Does the work extend across sexes, age groups, social-economic groups? If the work is limited in scope, state limitations, and speculate about the potential generalizations of the work.

12-18 pages, at least 12 references. Use personal ideas, summaries, and integration as much as possilbe when writing the paper. Analysis and synthesis of available information. APA format...title page, abstract, section headings, APA citations of sources, and an APA-style reference section.

Essay Instructions: In reality, models of treatment are often broken down into parts depending on the needs of the client. If you were treating a client with a chemical dependency, which parts of the various models of treatment as well as the format of treatment (group, individual) would you use? Provide a rationale for your selections.

Essay Instructions: The goal of this project is to determine the best course of action and what your case formulation would be in a specific case, based upon principles you have learned during the course.

Provide a plan of action and interpret the crisis within a theoretical framework, drawing from the textbook readings and/or outside research. You must justify the use of the theories you cite and explain the crisis in terms of that theory. You also must use a model of assessment, intervention, and treatment. Include in your assessment the possible psychological diagnosis (if you feel there is a mental illness), how you would treat it, a referral to an appropriate facility if necessary, and your thoughts on how this crisis is most likely to be resolved.

Also discuss the substance abuse of Cassandra’s family members. Is there evidence that states chemical dependency is passed on from one generation to another? Could Cassandra’s behavior be attributed to the cultural environment/genetic make-up with regard to any substance abuse tendencies? Include a discussion of this possibility in your plan of action and explain how traits are inherited in populations and identifies genes and DNA as the mechanism for inheritance.

Lastly, discuss the ethical issues that may arise during your crisis work, including how you would handle the client’s homicidal ideation as well as the presence of police officers during a confidential interview. Also include which characteristics of a crisis worker are needed specifically for this case. Indicate what additional information you would want to gather, how you would gather it, and how that information would change your approach with this client. Finally, describe how you would handle the escalation in behaviors from the client and ensure her safety.

Please read chp. 10, pgs. 293-304: discuss what is meant by the belief that alcoholism is a ‘family disease.’ Describe family systems theory of alcoholism and the family (with particular note regarding rituals, routines, shame, rules, roles, codependency). Compare and contrast children of alcoholics and adult children of alcoholics.
