Essay Instructions: On February 26, 2012, Trayvon Martin, a 17-year-old unarmed African American was killed while he was walking in the community in Sanford, Florida, where his father was living. As George Zimmerman, the 28-year-old community watch coordinator told the police, he was following Martin because he thought Martin looked suspicious in that gated-community, and then he had to shoot Martin for self-defense. Zimmerman was arrested even after the tragedy had happened for weeks, which caused heated nation-wide debate. One interesting phenomenon is that some media reports keep framing Zimmerman as “Hispanic” even though he is half white. From the perspective of the intersection of race, gender and class, how do you interpret this tragedy, and the media’s response to it?

Executives at the M&M Mars companies have chosen not to take any specific action on MCA?s request until they receive thorough guidance from your firm.
