Essay Instructions: I will upload the assignment that describes what I need to write about.

Main topic:
What are the authors trying to say about our relationship with technology? Choose two characters from either the same or two different works and examine how their “personalities,” dialogue, and actions convey the author’s/authors’ intentions.

For characters I chose Helena from the play R.U.R. by Karel Capek and Captain Picard from Star Trek:The Next Generation. They both defend the equality between robots-humans and think robots have souls etc. (this is all I know, I couldn't really read the play and I couldn't really analyze Picard). I will be uploading a youtube video link of a 5min star trek scene, I'm only responsible for that part in class. I will also upload R.U.R. e-book link. Please include quotations and also paraphrase. No need to summarize in detail since the class is the audience. I will also upload an informal paper I wrote about Helena, might give you an idea. But I wrote that without reading the whole play, so please read the play (it's really short!).
My prof hates when we have more than quotations per page.
I can only use evidence from what we read in class. You can include any material from R.U.R. and the star trek youtube video

1. Create a thesis based on the prompt
2. Identify key pieces of evidence to support your claim; be able to summarize the scene and quote or paraphrase as needed
3. Evaluate/Analyze this evidence as it relates to your thesis
4. You may incorporate other works we have used in this class but no outside sources

Audience:
Imagine that you are writing this paper for your classmates and instructor. You can assume that we are familiar with the sources that you are using, so you do not need to summarize the entire work. You should, however, use examples from the works to remind us of the scenes you use as evidence. For this assignment, please use only the sources that we have been assigned and discussed in class.

Essay Instructions: Briefly describe in your own words the content and purpose of the following texts: Karl Marx- "Morality as Ideology" and Stanley Grenz "Star Trek and the Postmodern Generation". Write one page summary, double-spaced. One page for Karl Marx and one page for Stanley Grenz.

I am going to give you the readings for both Karl and Stanley. You have to summarize the readings I give to you. For Stanley Grenz, the reading is the 1st chapter only.

Essay Instructions: In class, we saw Star Trek: The Next Generation - "Justice," High Noon, and A Man for All Seasons. In each of these dramas, the main character faces a moral dilemma. Synopses of these dramas are attatched to this test.

Using 1 in a half to 2 typed AND double spaced pages answer any ONE of the following essay questions. JUST ONE!

A) Should Captain Picard let the Edo execute Wesley Crusher or not? Why, or why not?

B) Should Marshall Will Kane leave town or have a show down with Frank Miller? Why?

C) Should Sir Thomas More swear to King Henry VIII's oath or not? Why, or why not?

Be sure to defend your answer with a CAREFUL ARGUMENT, relying on one or more of the moral traditions we examined in class. It is NOT enough merely to state your opinion, no matter how heart-felt it may be. N.B.: Do NOT be overly influenced by the decisions the characters made in the dramas. Make and defend your own decisions.
