Essay Instructions: write an essay about a book name: the souls of black folk by W.E.B DUu Bois

here are the guidelines:

Introduction: The introduction contains three elements, background/context, thesis and method of development.

CONTEXT: In this course we are examining the twentieth century in the world. Try to place your book within that context. Your text can be helpful on this, and you are encouraged to talk to me about context or setting if you feel the necessity.

THESIS: What is the main point of the book you have read? Keep this question in mind as you read the book. Jot down some observations or questions you have as you proceed. These notes need not be elaborate but enough to give you a handle on getting a thesis statement together. Be aware that the thesis may be somewhat complex and require more than one sentence to state adequately. That you need more than one sentence to state the thesis in full should not be seen as a problem. A full thesis statement may require as much as an entire paragraph. Identifying and constructing an effective inclusive thesis is not easy; however, once accomplished, you will have a clear sense of direction for the rest of the review essay.

METHOD OF DEVELOPMENT: What are the 4-5 main points you will use to develop your defense of the thesis? State those in your introductory paragraph or introductory section. Then let each of those points be the organizing principle underlying the remainder of your effort.

DEVELOPMENT OF THE THESIS: Your thesis will be developed in successive paragraphs following the introduction.

Each of these paragraphs must contain a topic sentence which is usually the first sentence of the paragraph. The topic sentence identifies some element of the thesis that will be developed in the ensuing paragraph. Hence, a good topic sentence can be seen clearly to link the thesis and the paragraph. The paragraph will contain development of the topic sentence, development characterized by the use of evidence (facts) which are analyzed in a way that supports the topic sentence and the thesis itself. The concluding sentence of the paragraph should serve as a link to the next paragraph.

CONCLUSION: The conclusion should be a summary of the effort to prove the thesis. You have provided the detailed evidence and analysis, and now you are drawing the reader back to the thesis and generalizing about how you established that thesis.

LENGTH: The number of paragraphs needed for development will be dictated by the number of points within the thesis that require elaboration. Keep in mind that you want your thesis to encompass the whole book, not just a portion of it. For those still wanting some more specific guidelines, let it be written that probably 4-5 pages typed, double-spaced will be sufficient to cover the assignment at least adequately.

Title: Critical Book Review of Soul by Soul by Walter Johnson

Essay Instructions: I would like the following writer that completed my last request.

The Order ID was: A2074259
The Writer’s Username is: Writergrrl101

Critical book review information:

Instructions:

As a critical reader of this book I am not to be passive; I should be asking questions of the book and note reactions as I read therefore this book review should then discusses those questions and reactions.

I would like for you to critically review "Soul by Soul" by Walter Johnson.

Please be sure to site from this book often and definitely according to MLA format.

Although there is no "correct" way to structure a review, the following is the approach that I would very much like for you to take on this critical review.

Summarize the book and relate the author's main point, or thesis. (Somewhere early in the paper, identify the author briefly.) [One paragraph]

Describe the author's viewpoint and purpose for writing; note any aspects of the author's background that are important for understanding the book. [One paragraph]

Note the most important evidence the author presents to support his or her thesis. [One or two paragraphs]

Evaluate the author's use of evidence, and describe how he or she deals with counter evidence. [One paragraph]

Is the book's argument convincing? If so why, if not, why not. Cite examples from the text. [One paragraph]

Compare this book with other books or articles that you can associate on the same subject. [One paragraph]

Conclude with a final evaluation of the book. You might discuss who would find this book useful and why. [One paragraph]

NOTE: "Critical" does not mean negative; skeptical does not mean cynical. If a book is well written and presents an original thesis supported by convincing evidence, I would like for you to say so. A good book review does not have to be negative; it does have to be fair and analytical and that's what I consider most important.
