INTRODUCTION:

Rock and Roll became the music of young America in the early 1950's, announcing a new youth culture centered on teen-agers with money to spend on music, clothes and cars, and which had a growing influence on the larger culture of post-WW II America.

THE ASSIGNMENT:

It's the summer of 1955 and you are the pastor of a church in a small, midwestern city preparing your Sunday sermon. There are lots of teen-age members of your congregation and you have good relations with them. A Rock and Roll concert is scheduled for the following Saturday night in a local arena, headlined by Jerry Lee Lewis and Little Richard. You don't like Rock and Roll and are convinced it's a bad influence on young people, so you'd like to devote at least part of your sermon to expressing those ideas. But you also don't wan't to alienate your young members. Keeping those objectives in mind, write your sermon.
