Title: Eliminating Racial Categories

Total Pages: 2 Words: 802 Sources: 2 Citation Style: APA Document Type: Essay

Essay Instructions: Race is a topic that may evoke a lot of emotion. It is not a topic that we should avoid.

Race is a social idea. It has no biological or anthropological basis. “Racism exists when one ethnic group or historical collectivity dominates, excludes, or seeks to eliminate another on the basis of differences that it believes are hereditary and unalterable” (Fredrickson, 2003). Racism is the assignment of people to an inferior category for the purpose of determining their social, economic, civic and/or human standing (Fields, 2003).
“Pretending that race doesn’t exist is not the same as creating equality” (Fredrickson, 2003).
