Essay Instructions: ETHICS PAPER: TOPIC IS ABORTION-PRO CHOICE

The right to abortion is a highly controversial topic in the field of health care and has been for decades. On one side are pro-lifers who believe that killing a fetus is sinful. Then on the other hand are pro-choice’s who believe that it is a woman’s right to choose and have the power to make decisions about her own reproductive health/body. I firmly side
with pro-choice people, as I strongly believe in a woman having the right to make their own decision.

Choose the strongest arguments. Some things to think about. How do we determine the humanity of a fetus? What is the definition of a person? Moral choices involve the freedom of choice. How do you determine the humanity of a being? Fetal personhoood. Viability, the capacity to survive disconnection from the placenta. Look at the Lacy Peterson trial because it involves her and her unborn infant. Look at teen pregnancy and rape. The rights and autonomy of the mother. Include Judith Jarvis Thompson's and John T. Noonan, Jr.'s arguments (good starting point).

The article comes from the book Intervention and Reflection-- Basic issues in Bioethics, written by Ronald Munson. It is the Ninth Edition.

FYI: I am pro choice and believe that abortion is morally justified when it is performed solely in the best interest of the unborn child. The instructor knows this to be my view, so please argue as though this is your take on the matter.
