Essay Instructions: Practicum Goal: To perform in the role of a nurse informatics staff development administrator in a nursing home care setting by analyzing the current practice and educational needs of nurses at initial use of the Computerized Provider Order Entry (CPOE), and by developing, implementing, and evaluating an evidence-based practice staff development program based on Lewin’s change theory for nurses using CPOE for the first time.

Essay Instructions: Practicum Project Guidelines:
The work on the project and the corresponding assignments is a MAJOR portion of your grade for this class.

You must complete a quality improvement focused project that relates to nursing issues.
PLEASE VIEW THE SAMPLE PRACTICUM PROJECT PAPER ATTACHED for an idea of what is expected.

GUIDELINES:
1) Complete a written paper as a project report that includes at least 2 articles references, utilizing APA 6th ed. format, paper is typed double spaced, and a length of 7 to 8 pages including title and reference pages.

2) Incorporate a written discussion of 3 of the 10 selected course objectives within the report
Course objectives are:
a) analyze leadership & management roles in social systems; (performance)
b) utilize nursing, leadership & management theories as the basis for nursing practice; (critical thinking)
c) utilize research to support nursing practice; (critical thinking)
d) evaluate the effectiveness of organizational structure; (performance & social responsibility)
e) evaluate the use of information technology to support nursing practice; (performance and social responsibilities)
f) evaluate written communication and patterns of interaction in the management / leadership role; (performance and social responsibilities).
g) evaluate own critical thinking skills utilized in nursing practice; (critical thinking, creativity and performance)
h) critic, legal, ethical; and cultural issues pertaining to management/leadership; (performance and social responsibility)
i) analyze cost effectiveness and quality care in a managed care environment; (performance and social responsibilities)
j) evaluate own and or others professional development needs; (social responsibility)

3) Include the following areas in the paper:
A) Introduction / background of topic (answer why are we doing this / begin with the issue or problem at hand).

B) Summary of 2 PROFESSIONAL ARTICLES on the topic of the paper ( you may use research studies that you are able to "connect" to our topic at hand.

C) Project Implementation with reflection on learning (here we will be putting our action into place. Be specific and very detailed about action and the steps we took to improve the situation. If you include handouts or surveys for colleagues you must describe this in full detail as well.

3c) Discuss how you collaborated with your preceptor
3d) Describe the specific steps taken to implement the project
