Instructions for Pollution Control College Essay Examples

Title: For a single policy field make a rational case for a particular policy position critique it

Total Pages: 3 Words: 941 Bibliography: 3 Citation Style: APA Document Type: Essay

Essay Instructions: 1. The point of the assessment is to demonstrate ability to put forward a rational case for a policy, and also to be able to critique such a case in a systematic way. It is NOT therefore an academic discussion of an issue, which puts forward the pros and cons and comes to a reasoned conclusion. It is critiquing it.

2. In particular this means that the part is not simply putting forward alternatives, or the downside of the particular policy proposal, but should be a critique of the policy argument itself. A good rational case will make it seem like the proposal is the obvious and best solution for a given problem - you task is then to attack this on the grounds that e.g. the problem is not defined well, the solution isn't actually the best one available etc.

Critique ‘rational’ policy on grounds of:
• problem definition: plausibility?
coherence? honesty?
• feasibility: could it work? if not, why not?
• justice: is it right?
• alternatives: might there be better ways of
achieving the stated aims? or alternative,
better aims?

This assessmenti is about Government’s policy pps23: Planning and Pollution Control (2004). Annex 2 which is addressing the issue of development on land affected by contamination in England.
You do not need write introduction, just start to critique it.
