Essay Instructions: McLauglin injured his back while working as a lumberjack. He became addicted to propoxyphene, the active ingredient in Darvocet and Darvon, during treatment for the injury. He was treated for the addiction in 1982, 1983, and 1987, but never stopped using the drug. He moved to Indiana, and there sought treatment in 1988 for his back pain. He was given a prescription for drugs with propoxyphene, which he filled at Hooks. He filled the prescriptions much faster than prescribed. In one 60-day period he received 24 separate refills, getting tablets that should have lasted 138 days. In one month, the prescription was filled 12 times, which meant that McLauglin or his wife appeared at Hooks at least once every tow or three dyas. When his doctor discovered the misuse, he refused to prescribe more. McLauglin became depressed as a result of withdrawal and attempted suicide. mcLauglin sued Hooks, arguing that the store had a duty to stop filling the prescription because the pharmacists knew or should have known that he was consuming the drug so quickly that it was a threat to his health. (a) In determining whether a duty is owed, what must the courts consider? Was it a foreseeable consequence? (b) Are pharmacists insurers against a customer becoming addicted? Did Hooks owe McLauglin a duty to monitor his filling of the prescription and refuse to sell the drug to him? (c) Are there public issues involved? (d) How will the court decide? (justify your arguments and decision after analyzing the situation from multiple ethical perspectives).

Title: Consultant Pharmacists Impact on the Treatment of Hypercholesterolemia

Total Pages: 118 Words: 32313 Works Cited: 0 Citation Style: MLA Document Type: Research Paper

Essay Instructions: I am working on a project regarding the impact of consultant pharmacists on physicians treatment of hypercholesterolemia. Pharmacists have now assumed responsibilities outside the dispensing counter and have been active in monitoring and treating (under protocol) patients with high cholesterol levels (as well as other disease states).

I work with a group of consultant pharmacists who call on physicians offices. Our project revolves around conducting baseline analyses at these office to establish whether patients are acheiving NCEP cholesterol guidelines. Early data shows physicians are doing an overall poor job of getting their patients to national cholesterol treatment standards (NCEP guidelines). My consultant pharmacists will be presenting the physicians data back to them and will make recommendation on how to improve the patients treatment. We will then follow-up on these same patients to determine if our consulting efforts had any impact on physician behavior and consequently patient's cholesterol levels.

What I need help with in this paper is:

1. A review of the problem - Many patients are not acheiving control of cholesterol despite treatment by their physicians.

2. A review of related literature with summary of findings of research already conducted on this topic.

3. I can handle the methodology, data analysis and summary sections.

4. Please list Bibliography (at least 10 references)

5. Appendices

Please prepare the paper in Microsoft Word, with 1.5 inch margins, Arial font and double spaced.
