Title: Effective Communication

Total Pages: 5 Words: 1835 References: 6 Citation Style: APA Document Type: Essay

Essay Instructions: Task Details: Prepare a formal academic essay that critically explores in some detail a particular skill or component of effective communication - body language. You will consult scholarly research to learn more about this skill/aspect of effective communication and how it applies to your future workplace - Paramedic. You will then reflect on how you believe you will be able to communicate effectively in your chosen workplace, focusing specifically on the skill/aspect of effective communication you have chosen to write about (body language). In order to complete this reflection, you will need to present one or two real-life examples that illustrate the points you are making. You should aim to end up with a theoretical component of the essay that goes for approximately 1000-1200 words and a self-reflection component that uses approximately 300-500 words. The entire essay should be no longer than 1500 words and the theoretical section should have enough detail so as to present a thorough discussion of your chosen communication skill/aspect (body language).
Theoretical component - to be written in 3rd person. Self-reflection component - to be written in 1st person. Begin the essay with an introduction instructing the reader where you intend to take them throughout the essay and what you intend to say. The body of the essay will then include a discussion of your chosen element of effective communication (body language) in general and as it relates to your profession (paramedic). This will include citing (referring to) relevant theory and research. You would then follow this with the self-reflection section where you reflect on your capacity to perform your chosen element of communication and use one or two real-life examples to support what you are saying about yourself (one example of effective communication and one example of poor communication skills - compare). Remember to focus on communication behaviour more than anything throughout the essay. You would then conclude the essay with a well-formed (and, where necessary, referenced!) summary of what you have argued in the earlier segments of your essay, drawing final conclusions for the reader.
