Title: becoming a nurse

Total Pages: 2 Words: 693 References: 3 Citation Style: APA Document Type: Essay

Essay Instructions: 7. Essay Guidelines
Applicant must submit an essay on becoming a nurse (attached to the nursing application). The essay must meet all the criteria listed here. FOLLOW DIRECTIONS. The intent of the essay is for applicants to demonstrate to the admissions committee that they understand what is nursing and the role they will play in health care as professional nurses. The essay is NOT a description of "why I want to be a nurse" or a description of personal experiences with health care. It must be a college level academic writing (if you are unfamiliar with academic writing conduct a web search and do some reading), based on analysis of the literature (articles and books on nursing, information from professional nursing web sites), but written in the applicant's own words (i.e. read the literature, contemplate the ideas and put into your own words [remember you must cite the references you use]). It is to be like a term paper, an academic work describing nursing based on your research. However, the parts of the essay on the role (job) you wish to enter in nursing and your career goals may be less formal. Remember, nursing is not medicine or medical practice.

The essay must include a description of:

(a) The American Nurses Association (ANA) uses the following definition of nursing. In your own words, explain what this definition means.
Nursing is the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention
of illness and injury, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human
response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, communities, and populations.”

(b) Nurses fill many roles. Roles are various parts of the total nursing job essential to providing patient care. The various roles are performed during patient care to provide quality comprehensive care in an efficient, effective manner. They are various responsibilities that fall into categories or into “roles of the nurse”.
1.
One role is care giver. Within this role the nurse uses “nursing process”. Explain
nursing process and each step in nursing process.

2.
Now give and explain four additional roles required of the nurse to deliver high quality patient
care.

(c) Nursing career goals.

(d) Explanation of your choice of full or part-time nursing program option.

(e) Reference list .

The essay must be typed using correct spelling and grammar. It must be one to two pages with one inch margins, double-spaced, and 12 pitch (font size). You may use the nursing computer lab if you do not have access to a computer or typewriter.

There are faxes for this order.

Title: Second BSN MSN Nursing

Total Pages: 2 Words: 602 Sources: 0 Citation Style: MLA Document Type: Research Paper

Essay Instructions: The title of this application essay is:
MY DECISION TO PURSUE A NUSING DEGREE AND FUTURE CAREER GOALS
I have been in careers that serve people for more than seven years now.
I have worked as a special education teacher and as a school counselor
with many different grade levels, in both middle and high schools.
I am now pursuing an advanced nursing role through admittance to the
Second Degree BSN/MSN program at Duquesne University. I would like to
ultimately become a Family Nurse Practitioner, but am unsure at this
point what setting I would prefer most.
I am pursuing a new career in nursing for three main reasons:
1) I have always known that I need to have a profession that involves
working with and serving people. I absolutely love it and I can not
imagine having a job where I was not working in this sort of capacity.
2) I would now like to make a more tangible difference in people?s
lives. Many of the disadvantaged and troubled children that I have worked
with as a special education teacher and as a counselor had far worse
health and medical problems than they had with their schedules or science
class. While there is certainly a need and a significant place for
teachers and counselors in the lives of these children, at times the
services I provided them with seemed insignificant compared to the more
serious health problems they needed treatment for.
3) Among my many learning experiences in undergraduate school, I
discovered that I really loved science. It took me a little time, and perhaps
more maturity to become more proficient in it, but it truly intrigued
me.
It was this discovery about myself that, even years later, left me
wondering if perhaps I should have pursued a career in healthcare. I did
not recognize it when I decided upon my major as an undergraduate
student, but a career in healthcare really seemed perfect for me in hindsight.
I had always known that I wanted to work with and help people, but my
academic curiosities lie in math and science and I had still never
really tapped into either of these strengths.
So here I am today; pursuing the career path that I had previously
thought I should have taken to begin with. I do not regret the route that I
have taken, however. All that I have learned and all that I have
experienced is far too valuable and applicable in my every day life. It has
completely changed the way I look at people and the world around me. It
has improved my relationships and changed my attitudes. It is who I
have become.
I am now ready, however, to expand who I have become. I am ready to
take all that I have acquired and all that I have learned and challenge
myself to a new and very exciting nursing career.
***As you can most likely see, I have cut and pasted from another
horrible and boring essay that I attempted earlier. Please use whatever
structure, wording, and/or imagery you think is necessary to convey a
unique and captivating essay. If you have a great idea and it does not
include all of the information I have included?go for it?or if you want to
use all of the information I have provided, that would be terrific too.
As long as it captures the readers attention and communicates that I am
exceptional!! I also want you to write the most profound essay that
you can, which can sometimes be difficult to do with strict length
restrictions. The essay needs to be at least 500 words, but if you need more
than two pages, then you may certainly do so. Thanks a lot and Happy
New Year!!***
