Need a THESIS Statement one that is simple, yet declarative stating position of disadvantage of being defenseless

Main topic to be addressed:
** The disadvantage of being defenseless (one or the other, not both)
defenselessness - the property of being helpless in the face of attack

Answer the following question:
In speaking of the prince’s military duties, Machiavelli says, “being disarmed makes you despised.” Choose an example or instance to strengthen your argument for this position. Is it possible that in modern society being defenseless is an advantage?

Below are some examples you can use to work off.
In the selections found in chapters 15-26, Machiavelli teaches his intended princely students the necessary political skills that a prince must possess in order to maintain his position on top.
- In speaking of the prince’s military duties, Machiavelli says, “being disarmed makes you despised.” As a result, the text articulates some disadvantages associated with defenselessness.
- For example, please note the emphasis on war as a necessity and major expectation of any ruler. In order to be an effective leader or ruler, war is a prerequisite. Accordingly, being defenseless not only makes one weak or vulnerable but also hated. Warrior-like leaders are more popular than peacemakers, according to the inferences here.
- In addition, please note that the text aligns being defenseless with being common. For example if a private citizen is effective at war, he can become king. Therefore, the text shows that the results of being defenseless make one common, not noble.
- Another inference is that defenselessness causes a break in the hereditary chains of power. Therefore, defenselessness also destroys that lineage of power or family tradition.
- Another implication about the disadvantages of defenselessness involves the notion of reality. Please note how the text suggests that if men abandon reality for dreams, they will succumb or create their own demises.
- There is also the emphasis for a prince to avoid hatred by his people but also walk a fine line between being loved. Instead, the text suggests that it is better to for a prince to be feared. Therefore, if one is defenseless, he might be too lax and more interested in love or admiration than political stability. If a prince is not on the defense, a major disadvantage is increased susceptibility to foreign aggression and civil strife.
