Title: Research and Short paper on Earthquake hazards of scenarios

Total Pages: 1 Words: 391 References: 2 Citation Style: APA Document Type: Essay

Essay Instructions: My subject criteria was not listed as an option. The subject has to deal with Geology, not Geography

Consider the 2 scenario earthquakes: 1) Repeat of the 1906 magnitude 7.8 rupture on the San Andreas fault AND a 2)Repeat of the 1868 magnitude 6.8 rupture on the southern segment of the Hayward fault

Start working on the www.abag.ca.gov site. (ABAG)

The natural earthquake hazards you will investigate and write about are:
-SHAKING (www.abag.ca.gov/bayarea/eqmaps/mapsba.html)
-LIQUEFACTION and other ground effects (www.abag.ca.gov/bayarea/eqmaps/liquefac/liquefac.html - consider earthquake effects on your building (in san jose, ca) and on highways, streets, sewers near location
-RUPTURE (www.abag.ca.gov/bayarea/eqmaps/faults - alquist-priolo maps. Zoom way in. Are you in Alquist-priolo rupture zone? There are no eq(earthquakes) scenarios maps for this hazard)
-LANDSLIDE (www.abag.ca.gov/bayarea/eqmaps/landslide -No eq scenarios but are you at risk for eq induced landslides)
-TSUNAMI (www.abag.ca.gov/bayarea/eqmaps/tsunami- No) eq scenarios, but are you at risk for tsunami?

Carefully read the ABAG info for each hazard and then evaluate the hazards for the locations (near san jose, ca)

-First work on the shaking and liquefaction hazards for the first 2 scenarios (mentioned in the beginning), comparing them, and then analyze your susceptibility to rupture, landslide, liquefaction, and tsunami
-Do not need to cite ABAG sites in text, but do cite any other sources

Lastly, please submit word version for Microsoft 2003, NOT 2007. Thanks

Title: Local Climate Investigation

Total Pages: 2 Words: 796 Sources: 0 Citation Style: MLA Document Type: Research Paper

Essay Instructions: Try doing the project on Houston, Tx. I would appreciate if you can write a little bit more than 2 pages. I am a repeat customer and this is my 4th assignment this week to be done through you guys so i am really tight on budget. Please consider it a request.

This project asks you to investigate your hometown, in depth, from a data standpoint. You are going to write a climate profile of what you found out. Try to stick to government sources, although you may find excellent resources elsewhere. You can probably do it all on the Web…make sure you copy and past the websites for all your sources and put them on a reference sheet.

Tell me the temperature profile of your town. Average temp. Seasonal highs and lows. Records. Are there unique micro-climates in the metro-area (mountains, beaches, valleys, etc.)? Include anything you find relevant on temp.

Now, do the same for precipitation. Do you get snowfall? Is that recorded separately? Is there a rainy season? Are there unusual controls that affect precipitation (monsoon, El Nino, etc.)?

Can you find out anything about the closest NWS office. Where is it located…what region are you in? Find out if you can get a radiosonde for your town. If so, save it and attach it.

Are there any special phenomena, either in the weather or related, that affect your town.? (example: hurricanes, tornadoes, flash floods, landslides, hail storms, etc.). If so, describe these phenomena and provide a couple historical examples. Why does location matter, here?
