Essay Instructions: A thematic essay about the life of Harriet Tubman. Go into detail explaining how Harriet Tubman exhibited behavior totally uncharacteristic of anyone in her social standing. Explain how she was a pioneer of her time, and highlight by example how remarkable it was for an enslaved, black female to persevere as a liberator. Show how Tubman's bravery and courage led to her success.

If possible, utilize evidence from the autobiography by Jean Humez. Harriet Tubman: the Life and the Life Story to highlight and develop Harriet's character over the course of her life.
