Title: Analysis of the Founding Fathers fear of mass movement leading to dangerous leveling in society

Total Pages: 9 Words: 2724 References: 0 Citation Style: APA Document Type: Essay

Essay Instructions: ANALYZE the following contention:

Dye and Zeigler, the authors of "The Irony of Democracy" contend that the Founding Fathers feared mass movement that sought to reduce inequalities of wealth, intelligence, talent, or virtue that may lead to "dangerous leveling" in society in violation of men's right to property.

Here are some details on the topic to analyze:

The Founding Fathers who wrote our constitution believed in a law of nature with rules of abstract justice to which human laws should conform. They believed that this law of nature endowed each person with certain inalienable rights essential to a meaningful existence, the rights to life, liberty, and property, and that these rights should be recognized and protected by law. They believed that all people were equally entitled to respect of their natural rights regardless of their station in life. Equality did not mean to the founding fathers that people were equal in wealth, intelligence, talet , or virtue. They accepted inequalities in wealth and property as a natural product of human diversity. They did not believe that government had a responsibility to reduce these inequalities; in fact they saw "dangerous leveling" as a serious violation of the right to property and the right to use and dispose of the fruits of one's own industry.
