Course Objectives

This assessment item links the Course objectives 1-5 are as follows:

2. apply the tools and techniques of strategic management to a variety of organisations in case studies and assignments
3. analyse strategic programs at the corporate, strategic business Unit (SBU), and functional department levels
4. bring together the other courses of your Bachelor?s degree into an integrated approach to business strategy.
5. to write an Executive Report on a pany as if you were a professional Strategic Management Consultant.


You are required to read the Guide for Students and to follow the format of the Executive Report structure given. (Chapter 3). The heading and sub-heading of that structure will guide you in the right direction( can be viewed at this link below)

As you read the case, look out for:

1. important questions posed by people in the case or the case-writer; and
2. the main issues, problems and opportunities
and then include your answers to them within the Executive Report structure.

Similarly, if a case actually poses a number of questions, you should include the answers to those questions inside your Executive Report.

Also note that all cases have different emphases, so some sub-headings will require more attention and a few might not appear at all (as the case does not involve them at all).

For example, if a business does not have a portfolio of SBU?s (Strategic Business Units), divisions or products at all, or if they are not important to the case, then you would not include a Portfolio Analysis Section in your Executive Report.

In some cases the pany is doing well and students then wonder what they are supposed to do. In such cases you need to focus on:

1. why they are doing well
2. what can they do about their weaknesses and
3. how can they do even better, including their possible opportunities in the future.

III. During the war in Arabic countries, the gas price is keeps rising. It is also mean the oil will all gone, it would happen in this generation.

I. Electric vehicle can produce less prison gas in the air

A. The effect of carbon monoxide is to decrease the oxygen transport to the tissues. (Schwela and Zail)

B. Four types of health effects are reported to be associated with CO exposure: neurobehavioral effects, cardiovascular effects, fibrinolysis effects and prenatal effects.(national research council)

C. If you are breathing in urban area with many vehicle like freeway and garage , the carbon monoxide intake is equal to 10-20 times of smoking a pack of cigarette. (Schwela and Zail)

Tesla Motors is a unique company that manufacturers automobiles that run 100 percent on electricity. The company has received a lot of attention in the media. In spite of loans from the federal government and various tax advantages given to alternative fuel vehicle manufacturers, the company has had huge ups and downs and has come close to bankruptcy at least once. However, it has recently had enough success to repay a large loan from the government.

Initially Tesla only produced expensive sports cars that only the very rich could afford, but the company is now expanding into producing more cost-effective vehicles. In spite of recent successes, Tesla does face many hurdles. It is a relatively small company compared to the world?s major auto manufacturers. It faces competition from hybrid vehicles that are much cheaper, such as the Toyota Prius. Nissan has even come out with a relatively inexpensive fully electric vehicle?the Leaf.

Consumers may also be unwilling to face the inconvenience of a fully electric vehicle. There are few recharging stations compared with gas stations in the United States, and it takes far longer to recharge an electric vehicle than to fill a vehicle up with gas. So while there is large public support for environmentally friendly vehicles that will lower our dependence on foreign oil, Tesla faces many obstacles and must carefully plan its future in order to compete with the large auto companies and expand its consumer base.
