Essay Instructions: The entire paper should be written in APA Style. Times New Roman. 12 pt font. Double spaced. 5 references. A MINIMUM of 5 FULL pages of text. Please reference "works cited" within the text when appropriate. The topic is POVERTY. The paper requires an abstract of 100 to 120 words. The paper needs to begin with the causes of poverty and why so many people in the world are still so poor. Then it should discuss the measures that have been taken to remedy or alleviate poverty, such as tax policy or things the government has done. The paper should close with a summary of all of the above.

Essay Instructions: The course I'm enrolled in is Political Science 209: Poverty in America.

For the purpose of this paper we are to answer the following question:
"Like Smith, Goldsmith and Blakely observe that 'the burden of poverty falls heavily on women with children and disproportionately on African Americans and Latinos/Hispanics' (pg.65). Unlike Smith, though, Goldsmith and Blakely emphasize geographical place and separation in their analysis of poverty. In what ways does this focus on geographical place shift the discussion about poverty? What is highlighted in Goldsmith and Blakely's analysis because of this focus on place that is not emphasized in Smith? What is lost -- or sufficiently emphasized -- by Goldsmith and Blakely's focus on place compared to Smith's focus on family and sexual regulation? Is Goldsmith and Blakely's analysis of place and poverty similar in any important ways to Smith's discussion of family and poverty? Your discussion should consider, but need not be limited to, the causes of poverty, inadequacies in current government policies, and proposals for change.

2. Anne Marie Smith. 2007. "Welfare Reform and Sexual Regulation." New York: Cambridge University Press.

Essentially, the paper is to compare Smith's argument regarding poverty and family and Goldsmith and Blakely's argument regarding geographical place and poverty, while paying specific attention to the questions posed within the paper prompt provided above. The inclusion of quotes is required and would help benefit and strengthen the argument of the paper.
