Essay Instructions: This is a 4 page paper on A geology movie of your creation, including accurate details of real science. The details:
paper should be 4 pages long. Do not diverge from this length too much. The first page should be a general plot summary of your movie with title, tagline, and one sentence description of the overarching geologic theme. The remaining pages are for you to outline three scientific details of your movie, with justification for their accuracy and why they are in your movie. make sure that the scientific details aren’t just variations on the same theme. For example, if your movie takes place on a coral reef, don’t use upp all three details on three species of fish that would find on the reef. Make that one detail, and tell two other interesting facts.
To Justify the science, do some research, preferably online, but books are ok as well.
The movie Idea is based on the premise that eventually, humanity has destroyed the earth’s environment so badly, that it can no longer properly support life. Because of the limitations and difficulties space travel represents, no one can travel to another planet. However, time travel is readily possible and provides people with a way to save themselves. Instead of traveling to another world, people have traveled back enough in time to a period of earth’s history capable of sustaining human life. This will be a specific time period when Dinosaurs still roamed the planet and a time period before any threat of a mass extinction. For example, geologically, the earth was much different 100,000,000 years ago with different land masses, oceans, animal life, plant life, volcanic activity, etc. Would that time period be suitable for humans to exist? It is up to the writer to decide a suitable time period (some time periods had a higher level of co2 while others contained a much higher level of oxygen).
The movie will contain more realistic scientific information than in other Hollywood movies which usually get a great deal wrong for the sake of special effects and/or plot continuance. Pretend that there is no budgetary limit and all geological, animal, etc science can be portrayed correctly.
After umans find the suitable time period to live in, they begin to settle the landscape, Either they have brought back certain animals and plants and fend off dinosaurs of the period, or possibly domesticate the dinosaurs and plants in that period. How would these humans react to the food available? How would the dinosaurs react to these new people they have never seen before? How would the landdscape be different than the Earth of today? What would the weather be like? How would they fish and would it be safe to travel the oceans because of weather and/or fish life?
Anything is discussable as long as it is based in science and realistic (Aside from the fictional ability of time travel). Only Three details (one page each) are needed after the initial first page.
The movie will be called “Rebirth.” The tag line will be “to save humanities future, repopulate in the past.”
The plot will begin after time travel has been done and the people will begin to colonize. It will shift from different levels of colonization where it shows possibly a decade forward and focuses on one particular thing they have accomplished such as building new houses, domestication, repopulation, etc. The ending will be a sort of memorial for the original colonizers as the repopulation has been successful and it shows a possible view of this new human population living and going about their business in a NY type city with Dinosaurs still roaming. The last scene might be 200-300 years from the beginning of the movie…
A trailer for the movie will start off with a young boy and his dog playing in a peaceful, grassy field (if such a modern type landscape exists). This will have a lassie, happy feeling with no hint at the true premise of the movie. After a few seconds, the dog decides to run off with the child screaming for it to come back. The happy, soft mood continues as the dog sniffs around and goes to a stream and takes a drink. Suddenly, the music shifts and the mood becomes darker. A dinosaur (T-Rex? Alasaur? Some type of carnasaur) steps in the shot and roars. The dog begins to bark, but is quickly eaten by the Dinosaur who roars again. The shot shifts to a landscape with houses dispersed like in a setting similar to something that would be found in Montana. People are seen farming, and building, while flying (if there are flying dinosaurs at the time period chosen) dinos streak through the sky. The scene cuts to black and the title appears with the letters being made of modern human tools and fresh dino teeth and bones.
