Title: THE THINGS THEY CARRIED book review

Total Pages: 4 Words: 1280 Bibliography: 0 Citation Style: MLA Document Type: Research Paper

Essay Instructions: I am writing a book review on THE THINGS THEY CARRIED by Tim O'Brien. The paper is intended for an academic audience and must be presented as such. I must avoid using slang, and common knowledge statements. Paragraphs must be at least six sentences long. The paper must stay on topic which means no outside sources are to be referenced.

1. Brief summary. You might want to begin the essay by taking a
little time to describe the content, organization, writing style, and
evidence used. This part is however not necessary.

2. A critical analysis. This is the main body of the essay. It is
here that you will tell the reader how this work adds to what we (you)
know about the war in Vietnam and about the people who in so many
different ways were involved. Discuss the one story that most affected
you, that most increased your insights with respect to the ordeal
endured by Americans before, during, and/or after their tour(s) in
Vietnam. Part of your analysis should include - very important - a
comparison of the theme and characters of your selected story with other
stories and characters in the book. I.e., do not give me an essay that
focuses on only one story in the work. This book contains nearly two
dozen stories. I want you to use several characters from several
stories, and I want you to quote liberally (citing every quote of course
in endnote or footnote fashion) from the book, to write your essay. It
is very important to proofread for content, spelling, and grammar, and
also for the does-this-make-sense-and-really-say-what-I-want-it-to-say

Please follow the additional specifications I have listed.
