Review the case titled “United States Steel Corp v. Commissioner” found in Chapter 8. Be sure to read the entire case study which runs just over ten pages??"??"including notes and comments.
Write a 6 page paper in which you consider each of the following points about the case study (taken within context of the full case study itself) and address each numbered criterion.
• In United States Steel Corp. v. Commissioner, it states “petitioner organized Navios Corporation, a Liberian shipping company, for the purpose of transporting the ore from the mine site to the petitioner?s steel mills in the United States. Liberia has long been known as a tax haven jurisdiction, and has been used extensively as a place for incorporating ship-owning corporations.”
1. Discuss three other possible alternatives that you believe the petitioner might have used and the rationale behind each.
• In the case, it is also stated that, “There could be no „independent transactions with unrelated parties under the same or similar circumstances? within the meaning of section 1.482-1(d)(3) of the regulations.”
2. Discuss how you would interpret this statement and why.

3. Determine which sections of section 1.482-1(d)(3) would likely be cited the most often. Provide specific examples to support your response.
