Title: Sports Psychology Review of Literature Paper Topic Effects of PETTLEP Imagery on Sports Performance

Total Pages: 3 Words: 1112 Bibliography: 5 Citation Style: APA Document Type: Essay

Essay Instructions: I’m looking for a Review of Research Literature Paper on the "Effects Of PETTLEP Imagery on Sports Performance". This paper should be a literature review of sports psychology case studies that compares the data presented in them; regarding the effects on an athletes sports performance (of any age level) when using PETTLEP Imagery.

(Just for your information, "PETTLEP Imagery" is a specific type of Imagery developed by Holmes and Collins (2001)...it incorporates it’s own set of key factors that are believed to effect athletic performance. These components that make up PETTLEP Imagery are physical, environment, task, timing, learning, emotion and perspective.)

------------------------------------------------------------The professor wrote the following instructions for the Review of Literature Paper:
"Each student must choose a sport psychology topic in conjunction with the instructor. The topic should be very specific so the student can focus on all the recent research publications about the topic. Many times broad topics have too much information available for the nature of this review of literature. The review of literature must include a thorough review of all recent primary research articles . The following guidelines are expected:

A modified American Psychological Association (APA) format must be used in writing the paper.
Carefully select sources from a library, through inter-library loan, online journal databases, web-journals, and other sources.
Sources must be primary reports of research (journal where actual research is reported). Examples include peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Applied Sport Psychology or the Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology. Non-research publications that are academic in nature can be used to support the dialogue but do not count toward the 5 minimum research studies in the review.
The content of the paper should focus on dialogue comparing and contrasting the studies as well as critiquing the analyses and methodology. For example, if you feel the author's conclusions from the research are wrong, explain why they are wrong and suggest a better conclusion. If you feel the author's methods were flawed, identify the flaws and explain how they should have been changed. Use citations and examples throughout strengthen your arguments.
A good paper will synthesize the information from all studies into a cohesive discussion. The tendency to focus on one article at a time should be avoided and summaries of articles, if included, should be kept to a minimum of a couple sentences.
The following are recommended databases to search:

PsycNET: PsycINFO, PsycARTICLES.
EbscoHost: Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection, SPORTDiscus.

When looking for primary sources, there are many factors that should be considered. One is the reputation of the source. Many articles that have a journal in the title are periodicals that are peer-reviewed and reputable. A good practice is to look at the journal titles listed in the bibliography of your textbook. Since authors are usually leaders in their field, they will have thoughtfully chosen reliable sources for their information. Most primary research articles have the following components: abstract at the beginning, introduction, methods, results, discussion, and conclusions. Articles written in this format are usually reliable primary sources when published in a reputable journal. First-hand web sources would include research papers published online in a web-based journal or university website. Use caution when using internet sources to ensure they are from a legitimate source. Secondary sources (second hand such as text books and web pages) should be avoided.”

Title: Social Psychology Assignment 3

Total Pages: 7 Words: 2368 Sources: 15 Citation Style: MLA Document Type: Research Paper

Essay Instructions: Applied social psychology; Assignment 3
The purpose of applied social psychology is just that: to apply the concepts of social psychology to real world issues. Applied social psychology can take a couple of forms. The first is applied research whereby the researcher (usually a member of a participatory action research team) collects information needed for policy and project development. The research reported by Saraswathi and Dutta (1990) is an example of this type of applied social psychology.
The conceptual framework guiding the work by Saraswath and Dutta (1990) is important enough to restate here:
1. Human behavior must be viewed and studied at levels of complexity that are quite atypical in behavioral science;
2. The complexity lies in systems of relationship linking persons, behavior, social environment, and physical environment;
3. Such systems cannot be understood piecemeal;
4. Tampering with any part of such a system will probably affect the other parts and later the whole; and
5. The focal challenge is to achieve enough understanding of such systems so that the effects of interventions and planned changes can be anticipated in a comprehensive fashion.
The other type of applied social psychology is the development of interventions which reflect what social psychologist (be it psychological or sociological) have learned about human behavior. Programs which seek to reduce conflict between children by placing them within cooperative working groups is an example of such an applied social psychology intervention.

Write paper: Choose a topic that you are particularly interested in (i.e. sports psychology, work related behavior, spirituality, mental health, youth violence) and do a literature review of the topic within the context of social psychological work. Come up with a brief reading list (approximately ten references which combine books and articles) which covers the topic of social psychology as related to the particular topic you are interested in. Be sure to utilize relevant areas from the course text(s). Write an essay that applies the concepts of social psychology, as discussed in the readings for the course as well as in those which you have chosen. Title: Four goals of psychology

Total Pages: 2 Words: 791 References: 1 Citation Style: APA Document Type: Essay

Essay Instructions: For this assignment, you will discuss the four goals of psychology, and create an example of a study that would satisfy each of the four goals of psychology. To clarify, you will have four examples, one for each of the four goals of psychology. Feel free to be creative here.

Sometimes it can be difficult to think of things (variables) to study. One thing I like to do is ask someone the first word that comes to their mind. I then elaborate on that word until I find something that could be studied. Students and I have found this helpful many times.

Keep in mind that psychology covers a broad range of areas from Sports psychology and Jury psychology, to Forensic psychology as we see on the popular TV show Criminal Minds.

For example, Industrial/Organizational psychology is the scientific study of the workplace. Sometimes I described this to people as workplace science. Often times, many people think psychology is only the study of mental illness, and often think of a psychologist and psychiatrist as one and the same. However, this is certainly not so.

Many of those practicing psychology are in fields other than mental health. In fact, an I/O psychologist would NOT be qualified to deal with someone who wished to discuss any type of therapy for mental illness. Workplace psychologists are experts in aspects of organization such as leadership, training, process efficiency, communication, and so forth. I/O psychologists used the results of scientific studies to determine best leadership practices for given situations, and also to develop effective training programs. These are just some of the things that I/O psychologists do.

Therefore, when you think of psychological studies, think of anything from studying the effect of playing violent video games found aggression in children, to why gym memberships increase in the winter (or do they? :-))

Week 2 Assignment Tasks:

*Discuss the four goals of psychology.

*Create an ORIGINAL example of a study that would satisfy EACH of the four goals of psychology.

*Be sure to reference the authors from the course textbook and information and insight you gain from the second half of Chapter 1.
(To clarify, you will have four examples, one for each of the four goals of psychology. Feel free to be creative here).

*Submit a 600 word minimum paper.

*Always include proper APA formatted references and citations using the course text or any other source in your assignment. You can Google “Owl, Purdue” to locate a useful source for APA formatting. Remember that if you include information in a project that is someone else's idea, and it is not cited, it is considered plagiarism. APA formatted references are also part of your grade. Therefore, spend adequate time becoming comfortable with APA formatting for references and citations. You will note throughout the course text and in research articles the in-text citations, as well as the reference section at the end. You may choose to use these as models for your own.

Using proper APA formatted references and citations to show that you are referencing material, learning, supporting your position, and show where you got your information and make sure you avoid plagiarism. APA formatted references and citations also count as part of the grade.
