For example, although community-based settings are primarily rehabilitative and often have a juvenile's best interest in mind, adolescent offenders can be mistrustful of the justice system and, therefore, rebel against it. This behavior can make working with them challenging and difficult.

Community-based corrections are an essential aspect of the juvenile justice system because these settings are where most juvenile are placed. Keep in mind, however, that as popular as they may be, these settings face many challenges including legal, ethical, financial, and diversity issues.
