Essay Instructions: Smoking Cessation in Adults (United States)

Propose your own strategy for controlling or preventing the disease or condition within a specific population or geographic area. What changes need to be made? Justify why your proposed approach is superior to existing efforts. (3 Pages)
-Economic/social costs of public health interventions or policies to address the disease
- Ways in which current disease control or prevention efforts have impacted people of various groups (e.g. age, gender, ethnicity, disease status).
- Relevant cultural practices or beliefs of the population that may be relevant to your proposed policy.

Please write a 3 page essay in which you discuss potential obstacles or barriers to your proposed public health strategy or policy. Examples of the common obstacles are stated in the expectations immediately below.
-Consider foreseeable institutional factors that might hinder your efforts. For example, there may be a lack of ability of health agencies to communicate with one another so as to effectively coordinate their efforts. Or, there may be limitations on funding of a proposed policy measure due to competing budget priorities within public health departments.
-Consider public health priorities. Public health practitioners must prioritize efforts based upon the typical severity of a disease or condition and the proportion of the total population that is susceptible or affected. Also, if the disease or condition is a highly infectious one, then the rate at which it spreads is also very important.
-Consider cultural factors that would affect the implementation of your proposed strategy this may include any foreseeable opposition from political, religious, or citizen activist groups.
- Provide a scholarly basis for your response.

3 pages, develop conclusions and make final recommendations. Explain how the potential obstacles to your proposed strategy could be overcome. For example, if you are proposing a brand new public health policy, then justify its probable effectiveness. Or, if you are proposing to modify an existing policy, then explain why your proposed modifications would be more effective. Suggestion: Look to examples where public health practitioners have been able to effectively address other diseases or conditions (or effectively control or prevent the same disease in a different region). There are many success stories of successful eradication or prevention efforts that have taken place.

Essay Instructions: Smoking in the Workplace

Here in Los Angeles we took a lot of static when smoking was banned in bars and restaurants. Now, even the jaded New Yorkers are doing it! From a health perspective there are serious questions about second hand smoke. Of course, if you don't want to go into a smoky bar, then don't go in. But some people don't really have that choice, namely those who work there. Or do they? Are people who work in bars and restaurants any different from police or miners, or anyone with a job that has a certain risk? If they know and accept the risk doesn't that make it acceptable? Or should it be like any other work place safety concern? Perhaps people who work in a bar or restaurant have the right to a smoke free and safe environment. Of course, all this depends on whether or not you accept the studies on second hand smoke to begin with. Be this as it may...........

Do you agree with New York's ban on smoking in bars and restaurants?

EXPECTATIONS:

I know that the ban goes beyond just bars and restaurants, but please focus only on this aspect and write a three to five page answer. Dig on the web and in proquest to find out as much as you can about the new law, and of course, apply the principles of normative ethics in your answer (utility and deontology).

Please read:

New York state outlaws smoking in all enclosed workplaces
Nation's Restaurant News; New York; Apr 7, 2003; Paul Frumkin; from the library portal at https://coursenet.trident.edu

Abstract:
Moving with unexpected swiftness, New York state lawmakers passed a sweeping anti-smoking measure that makes New York the third state after California and Delaware to ban smoking in all workplaces, including restaurants, bars, and hotels. Within hours of the New York bill's passage, Governor George E. Pataki signed the tough measure, which exempts only America-Indian-owned casinos, cigar bars already licensed in New York City, fraternal clubs, outdoor areas of restaurants with no roof or awning, private homes, and personal but not company cars. New York's ban will take effect July 24 in areas where smoking now is permitted and where local ordinances are weaker. Although the law will not supersede the stricter measures previously passed in Westchester and Nassau counties, it will replace elements of New York City's new law, which took effect March 30.

Title: Smoking Cessation Interventions Psychosocial and Pharmacological Interventions

Total Pages: 7 Words: 1983 References: 0 Citation Style: APA Document Type: Essay

Essay Instructions: I?m buying 7 pages for this paper. I do not expect that 7 pages will be added, but that at most 7 pages will be redone (possibly?not even 3-6 pages will be redone, but none the less?I want no problems with this in regards to its deadline). I?m sure I?ve over purchased for this, but I just want to make sure there is no problem with the time line for which I?m purchasing this product and that there is sufficient direction and explanation provided and that the pages I?ve purchased should allow for a good finished product. The finished product is obviously going to be more than 12 pages, but I don?t want it going too far over that.

I?m also providing another example of a paper that has been done for this assignment for reference to help with this purchase. The other paper is about self breast exam.

Literature Review: Integration and Synthesis of Evidence
The purpose of this assignment is to help you learn to synthesize and evaluate the body of literature and current evidence to answer your PICO question; to identify the quality of this evidence (critique of evidence), to identify gaps in the literature, and compare the evidence to your own practice. Using your selected research articles from your literature search, write a 10-12 page literature review using the attached grading rubric as your guide. Turn in: 1) Title Page, 2) Introduction (corrected or uncorrected) 3) Review of Literature, 4) References, and 5) copies of the articles cited in the paper.

GRADING RUBRIC FOR LITERATURE REVIEW

10 Matrices (representing 10 research articles used in the synthesis) 10
Integration/Synthesis of the Evidence: Present 3 ?themes? across the studies (Similarities in results? Dissimilarities of results?) Within each theme, present the evidence from the studies 35
Critique of the Evidence: Discuss your overall impression of the quality of the evidence (refer to the critique guidelines in the Melnyk book). 35
Gaps in the Evidence (What is missing from the evidence? What areas need further study?) 10
Comparison to your own practice: How does what you found in the evidence (specific findings) align with your own experience/practice? Feasibility of changing practice, if warranted? Barriers to changing practice? 10
Conclusion (restate key points from synthesis; implications for practice/research 5
Spelling, Grammar, Editing 15
Writing (topic sentences, clarity, logical flow, development/coherence, paraphrasing/quotes) 15
APA format (title page, headings, citations in text, references, copies of articles included) 15
TOTAL POINTS 150 points

I?m providing an almost done body of work for this assignment above! With this paper I?m providing the articles and a break down (matrix) of the articles that I?m using for this paper. The matrix gives a cliff-notes version of the actual article.

The restructuring of the flow of the paper like the suggestion on page 3 scan 1 document of (Where is your search history?) has already been completed. I?ve moved the pieces of the paper that needed to be moved into the correct places?at least as they need to be for now. (this will be evident on the most recent word document I?ve made changes, which will be downloaded for you in the resource files of this website).

(I?m writing in notes for each of the sections of the paper that I?ve scanned into documents)

-Scan1-The 3 themes that are there need to be stated shorter, more succinct, and limited to fewer words plz (as suggested by the writing from the scanned document).

-Scan2- this is also a scan getting into the 3 themes, talking about making the themes more succinct. In this document it is suggested that I use subheadings. I?ve done this on the portion of the paper I?ve revised and have downloaded as one of my resources. This scanned document suggests to get rid of the Burt article, my professor apparently does not like it that physicians are a part of my 3 themes, however across many of the articles (as an emerging theme) it talks about how it is important for the health care team (doctors included) having important impact on helping patients with smoking cessation. I don?t want to get rid of this article, I would like you to help in the writing of that section to show why physicians are important/(in her question why I?m focusing on physicians) I didn?t see it as that I was focusing on them, but merely including them as a part of the emerging themes from the articles I?ve read and how they can be important.

-Scan3- In the writing it would be beneficial to tie in nurse practitioners. So, even though physicians are in a position to identify the significant health issues?.so too will nurse practitioners as they will be practicing with the doctor in a similar fashion in conjunction with treating patients.
------use the matrixes that I?m providing to be able to include all of the articles into the Literature Review. The questions and suggestions under this scan are simply that I need to include all of my articles and I have not. Also, no quotes are to be used?so paraphrasing all of those quotes are needed.

-Scan4- the article in question for the beginning of this scan is trying to show how the social context of smoking plays a role in smoking cessation. Later in the 3 emerging themes one of the variables this article helps with is how social dynamics can play a positive and negative factor in people?s lives when they are trying to quit smoking. This article is one of support as to how I?m trying to show in my theme ?Patients Readiness to Change? (which is on page 9 of the word document I?m providing)

-Scan5- is straight forward

-Scan6- The professor is really hung up on this physicians thing?.can we try to tie it more closely to the nurse practitioner.

-Scan7- is pretty straight forward?I?ve already changed ?churn? in the paper

-Scan8- I?ve added to the conclusion. I?ve already moved the Identification of Data Sources

I REALLY NEED THE 16 ARTICLES WORKED INTO THE LITERATURE REVIEW SECTION OF THIS PAPER BETTER AND THE PHYSCIAN ASPECT MASSAGED INTO OR VERY CLOSELY CONNECTED TO THE NURSE PRACTIONER. THESE SEEM TO BE THE BIGGEST HANG UPS. THEN FLOW OF THE PAPER/GRAMMER AND WHAT NOT.
