Essay Instructions: It started out as a personal story. An essay about ?What ticks me off about men?. Then the bottom fell out???????my tutor let me know that my version of a research paper(my second essay) was not done well. I needed to create a research paper with an MLA format and cite my research. Damn! OK I thought ?.I can do this! Then a week went by and I (for the first time in my life) didn?t have an angle for my topic. My fellow classmates gave me some truly good advice but it didn?t click until????..I began to think about that topic. What really did piss me off? Oh I knew ??.but I knew about MY issues. Then I thought, what about my parents????what pissed off my mother? The answer was:
Nothing?dad is a saint! (well that?s what his daughters think??.and by the way his daughter in laws think the same). So where is my angle. Then I thought about my siblings. There are five of us and we are TIGHT. A reason to get together?an extra bag of chips! Why I thought? Mom and dad were active alcoholics until I was 15.
My siblings and I were separated and in foster care for about a year. Life wasn?t so grand!

Then another thought. My husband came from a very loving mom and dad. Although he has his ?issues? his brothers leave a lot to be desired. Drug addicts and alcoholics. They blame their parents for most of it. (that ticks me off) My research paper will be based on family.

A look into how and why some families are so strong.
I will be citing from the works of various authors and the internet.

This assignment asks you to look at those relationships when the child has a disability.

Using information from at least four journal articles;

Two dealing with the concerns and problems of parents with a disabled child &
Two articles dealing with the concerns and problems of siblings with a disabled brother or sister

AND

Four websites of advocacy and/or support groups ?two that focus on the concerns of parents and two that focus on the concerns of siblings

Address the following questions:

? What are the additional concerns and problems that the parents of a special needs child may have to deal with over time?
Your answers should include, at minimum, consideration of problems in the following areas ? social, financial, societal, family, emotional.
What are the additional concerns and problems that siblings of a special needs child may have to deal with?
Include minimally, discussions of the sibling?s development (both social and emotional), role in the family, peer relationships, and family relationships.
Be sure to include a discussion of the potential impact on the other siblings who are not disabled.
