Essay Instructions: The course I?m currently enrolled in is Political Science 301: Environmental Politics and Policy. The majority of our grade is determined upon a final research paper of 20 pages in length on an existing environmental policy or issue. For the purpose of the paper I have decided to analyze the effects of rising sea levels on the city of Boston, particularly the Boston Harbor. I have chosen to proceed with a policy-analysis type paper, in which you address an existing environmental policy quandary, examine existing and potential responses, and develop your recommendations for a way forward. Below I have provided a description of how the professor wants the paper to be structured using a policy-analysis type paper.

A POLICY-ANALYSIS PAPER WILL OFTEN BE STRUCTURED TO INCLUDE:
- An introduction to the problem/issue you are addressing and a discussion of its relevance
- Necessary background to place your issue in a historical context and provide information on stakeholders (regulatory framework) for whom your issue is relevant
- A discussion of the key concerns that are shaping your analysis, including a review of other research that has bearing on your issue
- A systematic description and discussion of the policy alternatives available to resolve your issue. These will include policy alternatives already being discussing and brought forward by stakeholders, you may also include policy alternatives that you have identified
- Your final recommendation on the best way forward, including a discussion of how you reached your conclusion
- A complete policy-analysis paper will also include an executive summary (200-250 words) and a bibliography

I have attached a detailed outline with footnotes that we were asked to complete a week ago to manage our progress. It might be beneficial to follow this outline, but of course feel free to add or omit anything you see fit?the outline is more of a guideline for you to see what progress, in terms of information has been made. I have also included bold, capitalized notes before each section, which are basically comments made by the teacher on ways to improve the paper going forward.

She also mentioned that I should use more peer-reviewed sources that are published from an academic press, so if you could incorporate that it would be greatly appreciated. I marked down to cite 15 sources--I have included sources of my mine, but feel free to use more peer-reviewed sources or sources you may have that will contribute to the paper.

Also, one of the big components of this paper is that with every section, you must relate it back to the city of Boston and how each section explains what?s going on in the Boston Harbor. Like I said, I made notes before each section to help you out.

Some sources to consider are: Journal of Coastal Research, Climatic Change, and Habitat International. Essentially, Boston adaptation strategies is they key focus of the paper so I need the introduction and structure of the paper to reflect that.

Essay Instructions: The paper is for an International Political Economy Class. The topic of the paper is on The Green Side of International Political Economy: Global Warming. The paper has to be precise, clear, and straightforward. It has to have a narrow focus. There has to be parenthetical citations within the paper.

The paper has to have an introduction, body, and conclusion. Avoid using me and I in the introduction. Start the introduction with "This essay will look at global warming." Then briefly say what the key points will be. For the conclusion, start off with "In conlusion this report has looked at___" Then mention the key facts. The conclusion may include some personal opinions or observations.

Since it's an international political economy class, the key points has to be related to social, political, and economic issues. There has to be a tie between the issue and examples provided. In addition, the examples has to be made explicit to the issues. Below is an outline I made based on my general reading and research. So what I meant by making the examples more explicit for example for social issues are finding out how much sea level has risen for the rise in sea level and how many and what island nations are being covered and by how much.

iii. Producing increase number in refugees especially from coastal regions in Bangladesh, China, and Egypt

The source I used for the above outline is from Intoduction to International Political Economy 4th edition by David N. Balaam and Michael Veseth.

Avoid using Wikipedia as a source. Use reliable sources.
