The National Youth Rights Association (http://www.youthrights.org/votingage.php) is an
organization that, among other things, is lobbying to change the voting age from 18 to
16. It has been argued that to deny youth in this age range the right to vote is a denial of
a key civil right to individuals who pay taxes and are subject as adults to many other
laws.

The APA paper will address the variables of appearance and employment. Specifically, the paper will address whether individuals with visible body art, such as tattoos and body piercings, are less likely to be hired for a job.
There has been plentiful research on appearance and employment, however, few studies look at body art as a variable. Past research has mostly looked at attractiveness, clothing, and demographics, such as age, ethnicity, gender as appearance variables. Since, the issue of body art has not been much studied in the past, the current study is innovative. It may also help individuals looking for employment to be aware of certain obstacles.
The hypothesis of the current study/paper is that individuals who have visible body art are less likely to be hired. The rationale for this, based on previous research, is that appearance that is not considered ?the norm? and ?most common,? is likely to be viewed negatively. Also, employers may assume certain personality characteristics of people, such as rebelliousness and disregard for rules, that they deem incompatible with the job.
