It has been suggested that in Euripides' play, Medea's five great speeches (lines 214-266, 366-409, 768-810, 1021-1080, and 1236-1250) 'drive' or 'carry' the plot or story from beginning to end. You are asked to examine the development of Medea's thought and plans for revenge as revealed in these five speeches.
You should try to be specific and analytical. Avoid unnecessary narrative-it is not necessary, for example, to describe how Medea saved Jason, or how Jason decided to leave Medea to marry the princess. Concentrate on the mood of each speech and how it reveals the development of Medea's thinking about her revenge in the course of the drama.
