Essay Instructions: Course - Change and Adaption in Organizations
Textbook - Reframing Organizations:artistry, choice and leadership, 3rd edition by Bolman and Deal

Movie - "Remember the Titans" 2000.
4 page paper about the movie analyzing the movie leadership, change ethical issues and apply frameworks (such as political, human resources, structural, and symbolic) to the film.

READ BELOW - This is an EXAMPLE of what I'm requesting:
My intent with this paper is to interpret and how the frame works of organization was apply in the film “Remember the Titans,” were we see leadership, power structure and cultural indifference for the class LED 604. In the film we see different ideologies in an organization and how reframing helps the leaders and the players interpret their circumstances and challenges and how to make adaptive changes.
The main them in this film is as I perceive it, it was racial discrimination in the structure organization of a football team. Racial discrimination is definitely a political issue and this paper shows how the coaches were challenge with the diversity of the players. How to they had to overcome the indifference by working together and getting their players to be of one mind set. They also had to overcome these indifferences to win the championship game.
The film “Remember the Titans” takes place in Alexandria, Virginia in 1971 at a black and white High School. Herman Boone (Denzel Washington) is hired as head coach for the school's football team, taking the place of the head coach Bill Yoast (Will Patton) who is white. The black and white members of the football team clash in racially-motivated conflicts on a few occasions throughout their time at football camp. But after several differences and team building efforts by Coach Boone, eventually the team manages to achieve some form of unity, as well as success.
The two coaches don’t see eye-to-eye on the best to manage the team. Boone is a charismatic leader with brutal, military style approach to coaching. He believes in breaking the players down and then re-building them as a team. Yoast is more laidback and conservative and feels Boone is pushing the players too hard. This difference in leadership styles lead to several confrontations between the two coaches and between the players. They realized that they had to reorganized, or restructure, even though it was a powerful but high-risk approach to improvement. Restructuring is a challenging process that consumes time and resources with no guarantee of success. Coach Bonne was aware of the problems he would engage by accepting the head coach position at a primary white school.Coach Boone used four frames to manage the football team that consisted on structural, human resources, political and symbolic. An example for each of the frames can be seen when Coach Boone said “We will be perfect in every aspect of the game. You drop a pass, you run a mile. You miss a blocking assignment, you run a mile. You fumble the football, and I will break my foot off in your John Brown hind parts and then you will run a mile. Perfection.” With this phrase all the four frames are used. With the structural frame, he was telling in advanced what the consequences would be if anybody from the team would missed something. With the human resource frame he was motivating the team to become perfect, as well as to become unique team and to depend on each other, not to be enemies because of ethnicity. Coach Boone was very hard on all the team players despite racial differences; this can be seen as the political frame. Coach Boone had his rules and his rules had to be obeyed or you were out of the team. Symbolically speaking, Coach Boone trained all students that wanted to play football with no exceptions. He motivated all students to become not just part of a team, but to be friends, brothers and to become perfect on the field.
One of the leadership skills used by Boone was the political leadership frame. He became the drill sergeant at the football camp. The boys learn many things, all of them had to do with football, but others had nothing to do with it. For example: Boone forced the boys to get to know each other, to spend "quality" time together. Not caring whether they liked each other, he taught them to respect each other. Boones’ also taught the boys to learn courage and integrity. This is the atmosphere that a true leader that cares for his people. The main character that was cluelessness to some extend was Coach Bill Yoast. He was not open to any ideas or to the idea of working hand in hand with a black coach.
