Essay Instructions: Religious traditions are always intimately connected to time and place, and they cannot be separated from their historical and cultural contexts. Oftentimes, a religion develops as a reaction to changes or problems within a particular culture. Religious leaders or prophets (like Jesus, Buddha, and Muhammad) teach what they believe is the ideal way to confront these changes or deal with these problems.

Consider the contemporary world with its unique needs and challenges. Is it time to create a new religion to meet these specific needs? If so, what would this religion be like? Explain its belief system. Would it have a sacred book? Would it have any specific mythologies or rituals? What about a hierarchical structure ? would there be any religious officials? What role would women play? Be creative and be specific. Perhaps you think a religion that already exists (Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, etc.) is best suited for the contemporary world. Perhaps you think more than one religion is needed. Or perhaps you think we should dispense with religion entirely because it?s irrational superstition. Any position you choose is fine, as long as you explain your answer in a well-developed essay. You won?t be graded on your opinion, but on how well you present it.

This is not a research paper, so no sources are required. However, if you use any information from another source, you must cite that information correctly using an accepted style format such as MLA.
