Essay Instructions: It is an analysis essay about existential themes in literature. It requires only analysis and NOT plot summary. It can analyze the existential problems of only one or more characters of the movie "Pulp Fiction".

The seven main existential themes are:
- Individual vs the herd
- free will vs responsibility
-existential journey
-authentic vs inauthentic
- existential anxiety, dread
- dark knight of the soul
- concept of the absurdness

I will upload a sample analysis paper of a story but note that it should be different since this is a movie analysis.

Essay Instructions: Answer the following questions:

1) How does the temporal unfolding of events in Pulp Fiction (Quentin Tarantino, 1994) help/obstruct the viewer''s understanding of the story. Is there a narratorial slant in the temporal presentation of the story world? If so, what is it telling us? 4 pages

2) Describe the narratorial style of presentation of the story world in Being John Malkovich (John Cusak, 1999). What is this film about? How does the mise-en-scene, editind, and cinematography altogether construct a specific reading of the story world for the spectator? 4 pages

2nd source- Film: Pulp Fiction, Director: Quentin Tarantino

The first paragraph should be a list of the plot segment of Pulp Fiction in chronological (story) order. Than in paragraph form the rest of the essay should answer ALL of the following questions:
1) What makes the plot different from the story and how dos the plot add/distract from the narration of the story?
2) Does Pulp Fiction follow the Freytag's Pyramid model from the book Looking at movies?
3) In words devise a model of the plot either from the book or a model created.
4) Analyze the plot for frequency, order and other unique attributes.


The follow vocabulary words SHOULD be included for comparisons throughout the essay:

- STORY- all narrative events that are explicitly presented on the screen, all events that are implicit or that we infer to have happened but are not explicitly presented
- PLOT- structure for presenting everything that we see and hear in a film
- DIEGETIC ELEMENTS- total world of the film
- NON- DIEGETIC ELEMENTS- the things we see and hear on the screen but that come from outside the world of the story
- ORDER- structure of the plot
- HUBS- major events or branching points in the plot structure that force the characteristics to choose between or among alternative paths
-SATELLITES- minor plot events
- REPETITION- number of times a story element recurs

Essay Instructions: Using a basic analysis on Pulp Fiction, compare it to the Hunger Games. Compare any element, cinematography, mise-en-scene, sound, editing., etc. Also can compare how the art direction contributes to the meaning of the film or character development. Any general comparison to these movies work great. If have trouble with hunger games, Pulp fiction vs any other popular movie is okay.
