Can one size fit all when it comes to global accounting standards? Whit the aid of examples, critically discuss the issues raised in the question for the various key players in the international accounting/ reporting arena.

Note: Clarity is needed for all types of KEY PLAYERS (Preparers, users, regulators etc) in coming to terms with the potential ramifications of IAS (International Accounting Standards)/ IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards).
You will also need to think about the pros and cons of having one global accounting standard for:

A range of enterprises (listed vs unlisted companies, large vs medium sized vs small companies, domestic vs international ones, public vs private firms, profit making vs charitable organizations, partnerships, sole traders, etc.)

Different accounting models (anglo-saxon, continental, inflation adjusted, mixed economy, Islamic, communistic, etc)

Consideration of alternative approaches and the synthesis of ideas and theory is expected. A descriptive approach is to be avoided. It will be useful to make explicit your view on the roles of international accounting and accounting standards before you develop your ideas.
Please do not reproduce long list of IAS/IFRS with copious technical notes in your answer.

In writing up your work, there will need to be evidence of wider reading material (both in the main body and bibliography) other than those provided in the lecture handouts. All source material including bibliography must be clearly referenced in a consistent manner using the Harvard convention.
