Essay Instructions: 1. (should be 3 pages) Imagine that you are a presidential speech writer and that it is your job to draft a major national address. This could be an inaugural address, a response to a national crisis, a policy position, a campaign speech, an argument for (or against) war, or any other kind of public pronouncement characteristic of the President of the United States. Keep in mind that the point of all such speeches is to be persuasive. Think carefully about matters such as style, organization, and rhetoric.
2. Respond in 1 page of concise analytical prose to part one writing. Reflect upon what it is you were trying to do in the speech for part one and whether you were successful. First, summarize the main point you were attempting to have the President make. Then, explain the various routes by which the speech proceeds. How are certain ideas emphasized and linked together? Which specific expository and rhetorical strategies did you employ, and were these effective? Did you find it necessary to suppress or evade certain kinds of evidence in order to make your case? Did you appeal to your audience using emotion or reason? And what were some of the challenges and limitations involved in writing political prose?

Essay Instructions: 1st. Assignment is to find a historical speech and rewrite it to convey the opposite message. Please try to stay as close to the original document as possible. Then the paper needs to have a written speech which i would like to deliver at some point in the future. Please provide a context for delivery (audience,forum,etc). Feel free to make this purely imaginary or fanciful. I have no real specific preference on which historical speech. It could be a presidential speech to a martin Luther king speech.
