Essay Instructions: the goal of this exercise is to read an article in a scholarly psychology journal, perform own research on the same topic and finally write a reporton the research. must be typed, double spaced w/ 1 inch margins on all sides. must be written in apa format with apa citations. use 12 point font. be sure to leave 2 spaces after every period. minimum of 6 pages not including the graph page and the reference page.
This paper should be written as a scholarly paper. write as if trying to communicate to an intelligent adult reader who has no knowledge of psychology or the topic. explain terms and concepts. DO NOT USE I IN THE PAPER...this paper should be written in 3rd person.
the paper will briefly discuss the topic and then explain in detail how i carried out the research and discuss your results. This is not an opinion paper. The paper should contain the following sections in order listed. Make sure each section is labeled...for examples look at professional journals, such as Developmental Psychology or Psychology Bulletin.

Abstract: brief summary or overview of your research project. it should include your hypothesis and a summary of your subjects, methods and your findings by skimming the abstract a reader should have a general idea of what you did and what you found. your hypothesis is your educated guess of what you think you will find before you do your research. its okay if your hypothesis was wrong.

Intro: describe the topic, explain all concepts and terms. Summarize the importance of and the justification for your research. Expalin why this is an interesting and important topic to study

Literature review: find at least 1 professional psychological journal article that discuss the empirical research on your topic....to make sure the article is empirical, it should have a section clearly labeled as methods or procedures. read the article, briefly summarize it. Describe the research and what they found. Discuss the problems with thier study. Give correct APA citations for sources that you use.

Method: Discuss exactly what you did and how you did it. To do a survey describe the survey : what questions you asked & why & how your subjects received the survey & returned it to you.

Subjects: Tell exactly who your subjects were Tell relevant info about them ( ages, race, education level, gender,etc.) Doing the research thru a survey must have 50 subjects.

Results: present the results in narrative format. Dont just tell me to look at your graph. Actually tell me what your results were. Give percentages. In addition you must summarize your findings and present them in a graph. What do your results mean

Conclusion/Discussion: Include a clear statement as to whether your results support or refute your hypothesis. How Valid and reliable do you think your results are? In other words do you think your results are flawed by extraneous variables? how would your research impact society? What could you do to improve your research? What problems might your research have and how could you change that in the future?

References:last page you must reference all of the sources you cited in your text. this must be on a page all by itself references should be listed alphabetically by the authors last name. This must be written folowwing APA guidelines.

my topic is:
PHOBIAS: Survey subjects to see if they have any phobias.... if so what are they afraid of? What is the most common phobia?
