I am writing my paper on the effects of war in the Persian Gulf on the U.S. economy. As we have seen time and time again, whenever there is conflict of any kind in the Middle East the stock markets go crazy. Even the possibility of conflict throws the markets into a fit, all because of the chance of an interruption in the supply of oil. This causes oil prices to increase leading to increased prices on everything we consume due to the added cost of delivery.
This will include a discussion on the opportunity cost of U.S. military intervention in the Middle East. The price we are willing to pay in both life and material, to keep the supply of oil from being disturbed. The heart of this topic is supply and demand and how the economy reacts to actual or perceived threats to the supply of oil. The fact that there are no common viable substitutes for oil, make its supply crucial to daily life in the United States. I will then discuss the effect on the CPI and its effect on our GDP. In the end I will show how oil prices increased with the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, I will show where oil prices found new equilibrium, and then how the latest uprisings in the Middle East have led to a dramatic increase in the price of oil.

Essay Instructions: Describe Paul Wolfowitz's career in Washington -- specifically his thoughts and relationship with Iraq. The essay should focus specifically on two periods.

1. The beginning of his career in 1979, when a Department of Defense report by Wolfowitz, Geoffrey Kemp, and Dennis Ross titled ?Capabilities for Limited Contingencies in the Persian Gulf? was released. The report, which was roundly dismissed by most foreign policy analysts who considered Iran to be a much more significant threat due to the recent Iranian revolution, came to startling prophetic conclusions about Iraq. Among the many conclusions in the report, was that:
"Iraq has become militarily pre-eminent in the Persian Gulf, a worrisome development. ... Iraq may in the future use her military forces against such states as Kuwait or Saudi Arabia (as in the 1961 Kuwait crisis that was resolved by timely British intervention with force). ... [W]e must not only be able to defend the interests of Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and ourselves against an Iraqi invasion or show of force, we should also make manifest our capabilities and commitments to balance Iraq's power?and this may require an increased visibility for U.S. power"

2. His time after the first Gulf war, when he was undersecretary of defense for policy, and drafted a defense planning document that laid out the core ideas of what was to become the Project for the New American Century's vision. It was a strategy of maintaining and strengthening unchallenged U.S. military superiority against a potential future superpower rival and against unrest around the world, through pre-emption rather than containment and unilateral military action rather than multilateral internationalism. Bush Sr. administration officials rejected it as too radical.

This paper should be a fair examination of Wolfowitz, and other neoconservatives if necessary. What I really need is a history of neoconservative thought before, and into the second Bush administration. Thanks, and good luck.

essay one, it notes for you to go "in depth", well this means you will
need to elaborate and discuss the topic in some detail.
