Essay Instructions: 5-pages -- (Not including bibliography)

I am required to use one (1) PRIMARY SOURCE (in this case -- Thucydides is the author I wish to use as my primary source.)Also, I must include two (2) SECONDARY SOURCES. I have already provided my professor with the sources I will be using; so if you could possibly refer to the following two books, that would be great!

Primary Source: History of the Peloponnesian War: The Revised Edition (Penguin Classics) by Thucydides, M.I. Finley(Introduction), Rex Warner(Translator)

Secondary Source: The Landmark Thucydides: A Comprehensive Guide to the Peloponnesian War by Robert B. Strassler, Victor Davis Hanson(Introduction).

The other Secondary Source can be anything else, including the internet.

As far as citations, no more than three (3) per page is necessary.

Essay Instructions: Most simply put, please answer the following and state/present both sides (absolutely NO personal opinion, NONE! - as a lawyer would present facts in a case) of the argument solely referencing ONLY the PAUL WOODRUFF VERSION (absolutely NO other sources, NONE!) OF THUCYDIDES (Hackett Publishing, ISBN 13: 978-0-87220-168-2, which is readily available ie: google - if for some reason this specific required book is not accessible to the researcher/writer please request photocopies of the necessary pages from text which will then be furnished asap, thank you! :D)

Question:
What evidence does Thucydides provide in The History of the Peloponnesian War that the
Peloponnesian War was “inevitable”? What evidence does he provide that it was not?

You may find Woodruff’s discussion of this issue helpful, but remember not to rely on his
observations without backing them up with evidence from Thucydides. Note that the issue here
is not whether the war was planned for and eagerly pursued or else argued against and resisted.
Providing evidence of any of these things does not in itself demonstrate that the war was
inevitable or avoidable.

4. Who were the Sophists and what contribution did they make to Athenian politics? OR;
what was Socrates? main objection to their program?
5. Alcibiades? ?had been forced by his enemies to give proof of his own valour at the
expense of his fatherland? (Diod. xiii 41.5). What does that quote mean?
6. Was Macedonian hegemony the result of the power of Philip II or the weakness of the
Greek city states?

Essay Instructions: Compare Machiavelli to Thucydides as a political theorist,using the books The Prince and Peloponnesian War.You may,if you wish, also bring in Plato where he seems to provide a helpful point of contrast and comparison.What are their assumptions about human nature, leadership, the state, etc? The essay should focus on the Machiavelli half of the comparison with the other(s) as point of reference.
