The two paintings above share the same subject: landscape. Claude Monet and Andre Derain created the two pictures just thirty-eight years apart. Both were painted in France. Compare and contrast these two paintings in terms of the colors used by the two artists. The café painted by Van Gogh was a place he often frequented in Arles. Auguste Renoir was perhaps the most important artist in the Impressionist group, after Monet. “Le Moulin de la Galette” was the name of a popular outdoor café in Paris.
