As I transferred to H school, I struggled to adjust into academics and new environment. My grades were not as high as those of my friends and started to have pessimistic view about my grades. Though I was having hard time, I made many friends and enjoyed Hun. I always hung around with friends, went out to town on weekends, and played a lot of sports. Unfortunately, I gradually became languish about academic part of sophomore year and got stressed. Without thinking about bring my grades up, I became lazy and failed to acknowledge about my lack of effort but blamed myself that the school works are just too hard to accomplish.
After I knew
Though my mom always had few surgeries on her ovarian, she always seemed to be fine. My parents were also as stressed as I was, since they knew how much I was striving in new school and encouraged me that I can go through this hardship. Not getting motivated by their encouragements, I did not change my sluggish attitudes. One day, I heard from my uncle that mom had ovarian cancer surgery and she did not want me to know. I felt miserable and thought that my attitudes made her to suffer mentally and physically which caused her to become sick. Regretting but being angry at myself, I started to see every surroundings with full of hatred. During that period, I probably considered myself as one of the unluckiest person in the world.

Fortunately, mom happened to find out about her cancer in stage 1 and received cancer right away. Even though she was not fully cured, she recovered quickly. At first I refused to talk to her since I made her sick, but after I spent my spring break in Korea with her, my view totally changed. Despite the fact that I was effortless in school and made her to always worry, mom forgave everything and kept supporting me to have optimistic and active mind. After all, I have extracted my habits which were overlooking important details but only seizing things that are entertaining. I studied harder to make justify myself that I still have hope to fix errors that I have made and overcome drawbacks. From spring sophomore year and last junior year, I lived deliberately and did not procrastinate any important works. My grades from last year reflect how much I have changed, and I am very encouraged by such accomplishment that I am willing to keep up my optimistic and painstaking characteristics.

From this significant period of my life, I have gained priceless lesson. If I have the eagerness to do something, I can accomplish those goals. Having learned this lesson, I now manage my schedule deliberately and always try my best to finish everything on time. During 18 years of my life, I believe this way is the only key to succeed.

Life Changing Event that shaped my new Career (Graduate School Essay)

Essay: Personal Statement (For Graduate School)

Descriptive and Detailed Hints for Personal Statement: *
------------------------------------------------------------
I thought that the following points could be helpful for the best written personal statement for graduate school (the points should show the courage, hope and strength rather than sadness to maintain the positive, non – boring and impressive attitude of the reader).

As I want to apply for Entrepreneurial Biotechnology program with more bioscience and business, and part ethical and legal focus of the technology. Therefore I would like to keep more biosciences domain towards newer paradigms of the related technologies to solve the current day health issues with a touch of new businesses / Ideas. Of course the business side adds up strategy, finance and insight to the new technology and legal and ethical sides would allow the proper usage after passing through certain measures.

"Someone very close to me passed away with ovarian cancer and during her illness and afterwards even I lived couple of years of my life in darkness. She was diagnosed for cancer when it was at third stage. It changed my life by all means or to be truer on all aspects of life, whether it’s social, moral or something else. Hence, it also impacted my career not only in those days but afterwards as well. As I wanted to have a degree in business / Finance etc. but after this incident, I decided to have a degree in biosciences so I finally graduated with a degree in “Bioinformatics and Computational Biology”"

I would like to show that if one feels the pain then one can stand up for a change. I would like to show my eligibility and interest in the related field through my personal statement and with some impressive ending paragraph.

In my essay I would like to show that there biomedical issues and how the current day technology could help, provided if directed in the proper direction through proper planning and also to the areas where it is least available. Above all this, my real life incident has made me to think about these issues and constantly forcing me to adopt the career in biosciences / biotech / pharmaceuticals, in order to prevent those painful diseases from happening or at least their early diagnostics at a controllable stage.

In addition to my desired career plan, I have mentioned few of the points, just to give a little back ground about my life incident and how it affected me and my career goal. Rest is up to the writer of the personal statement that how he/she adds up other factors / flavors for the “Graduate level Personal Statement” for the prestigious schools.

The points I mentioned are scattered all over, but i am hopeful that the writer would understand my point of view and would produce a best piece for me (as i am already getting late for my deadline).

Thanks.

Quotations I would like to use: *
-----------------------------------------
I have couple of quotation which I really liked in my recent readings. If possible and make sense then please use them with a flavor of above details. Only one or two quotations at most I would like to use in my statement. Usually an opening paragraph starting with the quotation following the background of life changing event would make my vision, but again it is a suggestion. The writer might like to fit these points in the overall flow of the essay.

1) Greatness is always built on this foundation: The ability to appear, speak and act, as the most common man.

2) There is a candle in your heart, ready to be kindled. There is a void in your soul, ready to be filled. You feel it, don’t you?

3) Not hammer-strokes, but dance of the water sings the pebbles into perfection.

4) If you think you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping in a closed room with a mosquito.

Couple of Suggestion in my knowledge just to make myself "Calm":
-------------------------------------------------------------

A good personal statement balances a discussion of your past experience with an explanation of your goals, plans, and aspirations. Do not write an essay entirely about what you plan to do, but do not ignore your plans either. If possible, show the continuity between your past experience and your future plans.

Keep in mind the purpose of your essay. Remember that the other parts of your application will tell the review committee about your schoolwork, your extra-curricular activities, and your intellectual ability. You do not need to repeat things listed elsewhere on the application. Nor do you need to try to prove that you are smart. You should have two goals: first, to show that you can communicate clearly and easily; and second, to convey a sense of who you are within the parameters of the questions asked.

Non Related Stuff:
----------------------------------
Oh Yeah, One more thing. It might not be related to the statement but just for the sake of information, as it might help writer to use the sentences confidently. I have worked in databases with couple of financial clients and have been on deans list at my undergraduate studies.

WHAT DO YOU THINK? A Case Example: Screening for Breast
or Ovarian Cancer Risk
During an initial visit to the High Risk Breast and Ovarian Cancer
Clinic, a 37-year-old, Ms. Brown, reports that she had found a mass
during a self-breast examination in 2006. She subsequently had
the mass inspected by a clinician and underwent a mammogram,
which showed a suspicious finding. A breast core-biopsy was performed
and the pathology report indicated that she had atypical
ductal hyperplasia. Ms. Brown then had a breast lumpectomy, and
the lump was benign. In 1996, she had undergone a total abdominal
hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy for endometriosis.
Ms. Brown briefly took hormone replacement therapy but
stopped in 2006 when the breast mass was identified. She initiated
Evista therapy as a breast cancer reduction measure, but after 6
months she stopped the medication because of the side effects.
Ms. Brown reports that she is not entirely opposed to considering
using Evista again. Her family history indicated that a paternal grandmother
likely had a type of ?female cancer.? This grandmother died
in her middle 30s to early 40s. There were also three cousins on the
paternal side of the family who had unilateral breast cancer when
they were in their 30 and 40s.
On the maternal side of the family, her grandmother was diagnosed
with breast cancer when she was in her 40s. She is alive and
doing well at age 72. One of the grandmother?s sisters had lymphoma
and died in her late 60s. A maternal great-aunt who was a
sister to her maternal grandfather, not maternal grandmother, died
in her 70s of ovarian cancer. A sister to her maternal great-aunt
(another maternal great-aunt) died in her 70s or 80s of a primary brain
cancer.
Reflect on these questions and see what implications they have
for nursing action and for public health concerns:

1. What are some possible issues that could arise if Ms.
Brown has a positive test? What legal and ethical issues
would you consider? What considerations would you take
into account if she has a teenage daughter?

2. What effect would the client?s literacy level have on how
you would handle this case?

3. If you were caring for a family with multiple family members
who obtain genetic testing and some members are
found to be genetic mutation carriers while others are not,
what would you anticipate might occur in relation to family
dynamics? What actions might you take? Consider the referrals you might make.
