Essay Instructions: This paper will cover the life and art of Otto Dix (1891-1969). This paper must be formatted in MLA and use appendices. The appendices will be ten (10) works by Otto Dix throughout his career. The works/appendices must be referred to in this essay.

This paper will answer the following questions:

3.) What kind of career did the painter have?
4.) What styles were used by the artist?
5.) What kinds of paintings did he produce?
6.) Did the painter change styles?
7.) What techniques did the artist use in his paintings?
8.) What innovations or other contributions did he accomplish?
9.) Did the artist produce in other media besides painting?
10.) What were the effects of travel on the artist and his art?
11.) Did the artist enjoy patronage or sponsorship of his career?
12.) Which other artists influenced his art and how did the artist influence other artists
during and after his career?
13.) What were the interactions of the artist with other artists?
14.) How successful was the artist in his career, and were there abrupt changes in the
fortunes of the painter?
15.) What acclaim or criticism did the artist encounter while alive and also what has
been the evaluation of the artist’s work over time?
16.) Short discussion (a paragraph) on three works of the artist.

This essay must have a strong introduction and conclusion with a carefully thought out presentation of the artist’s career within the essay’s body. The introduction must contain a strong thesis statement that will establish the main point of Otto Dix’s artistic biography. Thesis Examples: “Rubens personifies the Baroque style of painting”
or “Renoir’s paintings celebrates the pleasures of human life”

This essay must use at least 8 TEXT sources. Three of the sources must be the following:

II.) Encyclopedia of World Art, (New York: McGraw-Hill Book Co., Inc., 1959-83) 17 vols.: REF N31. E4833 (Good on artists and styles)

III.) The Britanica Encyclopedia of American Art, ed. Milton Rugoff et al., (New York: Simon&Schuster, 1973). REF N6505.B73 (good for biography)

In addition, the essay requires that three books be used along with two academic articles from Centra. (I will send to you the academic articles via e mail or fax)
