Essay Instructions: Regarding the writing of papers: the main thing to master is to have a THESIS, a main point that you wish to make about what you are commenting on. For instance, if you were writing a paper on White's "Once More to the Lake," your thesis could be that the narrator is happy about having returned to the lake, or that he seems to be happy but is actually sad about it, or that he is ambiguous about it, or perhaps even regretful about returning to the lake, or one of a hundred other ideas. Choose a definite thesis, and make both your title and your first paragraph reflect that thesis clearly. In the first paragraph, also, name the author and title of what you are talking about, and provide a sentence or two of basic information about the reading, for the benefit of the reader who may not have read what you are talking about. Do not write for me as your only reader. I will only be with you for 8 weeks. Write for the average, intelligent person who can understand what you are saying, but who may not have read what you are talking about, and who therefore needs a sentence or two of background information.

Once you have the thesis, come up with 2, 3, or more arguments that would support your thesis. Then, develop each one of those arguments into at least one paragraph of 3-5 sentences; some may need more than one paragraph to be fully developed.

In the essay, discuss how your current view of the scene differs from the view you had when you were a child. Though your paper has a subject, create a unique sub-topic that might clearly describe what your paper is about. Include at least 2 references to support your opinions.
