Essay Instructions: ?Peak Oil? refers to a theoretical point in time where the rate of oil production from particular fields, regions, or even the world itself reaches a maximum. Thereafter, the rate of oil extraction enters a period of unrelenting terminal decline. This theory, popularized the famous geologist M. King Hubbert in the 1950?s, has been used to predict the date at which oil production from various areas would reach peak production value. Predictions of this sort have been generally confirmed by actual production data in many areas. For example, oil production from Texas peaked in 1972 and Alaska production peaked in 1988, with total U.S. oil production peaking in 1970. Following similar reasoning and calculations, many have predicted that total world oil production has already peaked, or will peak shortly. Growth in human population (i.e., exponential growth) is an important factor, which combined with declining oil production, results in an even greater reduction in oil production per capita. Many people in the oil industry argue that the ?peak oil? concept is overly pessimistic as it doesn?t account for new technological developments in offsetting or even reversing measured or predicted production declines.

Essay Instructions: Topic- British Petroleum’s Discovery in Gulf of Mexico

British Petroleum discovered oil in Gulf of Mexico on the September 2, 2009. They say that the oil well was 35,055 feet and it is the deepest oil well ever dug. We chose to write about this topic because this discovery is significant and it’s new. At the same time the oil industry will have a huge impact. Also British Petroleum said that the current technology used to take the oil from such wells will not be enough. This gives us more knowledge towards the development in the oil industry and this topic is to new to be in the Prize, so we thought are contribution might be beneficial.

I want a good introduction to the paper and a brief description of the oil found and any other information that is useful. And also what is the current progress, and any other current plans to be implemented.
