Title: Nurse Care Beliefs

Total Pages: 2 Words: 575 Bibliography: 1 Citation Style: MLA Document Type: Research Paper

Essay Instructions: Guidelines for Personal Philosophy Paper

Each student is to write a personal philosophy related to their beliefs about nursing and nursing care. This statement is to be no more than two pages, double spaced and typed. It should address your beliefs about nursing, nursing care, and your beliefs about being a nurse, which all together make up your personal philosophy.

You may want to link your philosophy to a nursing theory that you read about in the book or discuss it in relations to nursing's paradigm or discuss your philosophy related to caring. Regardless, this paper is on how you view nursing and your own personal philosophy of nursing.

There is no title page for this paper, just two pages (maximum) on YOUR personal philosophy about nursing. One reference is required. This reference should be in APA format and added to the bottom of the second page of your paper, not on a separate sheet. Put your name in the Header section of the paper.

An example of a nursing philosophy one student once wrote: I believe each child is a part of a family and I must identify what that family is for the child. As I care for the child I care for the family and caring for only one or the other would not be complete care. I also believe that while I must integrate teaching and support of the parents in all care activities, I must work to promote independence of the child and that the level of independence of any child will be dependent on their age, knowledge, and experience in the health care system.

Title: Low self esteem

Jaslyn, aged 18 years, has been admitted for having vomiting, weight loss, diarrhea and persistent headache for a few weeks. She is doing a course on tourism in a private school. Her elder sister is pursuing a medicine degree at an ivy league while her younger brother attends a top high school and is in the final year. Her father is an attorney and her mother works as a banker. They live in a posh mansion and have a foreign domestic helper (maid).

Her history reveals that Jaslyn has always been a quiet girl and does not have many friends. Her parents are seldom at home. They are very proud of their elder daughter and younger son's academic achievements. Jaslyn failed to gain admission into a college because of her poor high school results. Her parents thus enrolled her in a private school.

Since leaving high school, Jaslyn has been keeping very much to herself. Her high school friends do not keep in touch with her anymore. Jaslyn sits at the corner of her bed and looks down on the floor all the time. At times, she seemed far away and deep in her thoughts. Jaslyn said, "I am very ashamed of myself because I am not smart like my siblings. My parents are disappointed in me. I feel useless. I don't know what to do. I wish I have cancer so I can die"
