Instructions for Nervous Conditions College Essay Examples

Essay Instructions: Instructions
English Annotated bibliography assignment (from 3 critical essays on"Nervous Conditions" by Tsitsi Dangarembga): Each critical essay will include a Precis and critique, separate from each other. All 3 however, should have the same underlying theme such as gender inequality in post colonialism.

A precis is a concise summary of a text. For a precis of a critical essay, the objective is to distil the key points of the argument from the larger discussion and to summarize that argument in your own words. Consequently, do not follow closely the actual wording of the original in a reduced form. If the use of a few key words or key expressions from the original text is unavoidable, put them in quotations with citation. The objective is solely to demonstrate the ability to read precisely and state clearly the argument of a critical essay in your own words.

The critique: should offer commentary on, analysis of, or opinion about the argument summarized from the critical essay. The precis and critique together is the annotated bibliography.

Each annotated bibliography will be separate from each other. The critical essays chosen should reflect similar underlying themes (such as gender inequality in post colonialism). There will be 3 annotated bibliographies in this style. Each annotated bibliography is 350 words in length (approx.)

The annotated bibliography should: summarize the argument precisely and concisely in your own words; paraphrase the primary points and excluding the secondary points. Include any critical commentary, analysis, and opinion.

Each annotated bibliography will include : a 375 word (2 page) analysis, and 2 pages ((completely separate from the annotated bibliography itself) containing the following information from each critical essay, in point form:

- identify the thesis statement and/or all possible thesis statements (cite page and quotation)
- identify the primary points and/or all possible primary points (cite page and statements)
- identify the secondary points (not to be included in the bibliography, only for reference)
- identify the key concepts (cite page and statements)
- identify it's situating move: it's relation to a larger critical context (a move that critics make in order to make their argument unique, "everyone says this...I will talk about something different.")
- identify any additional sources of interest (interesting words or phrases mentioned in the critique, old english, different languages or dialect, repetition of words or concepts of interest)
- any particularly impressive sentences (sentences worth emulating)
(all these can be short points, sentences with reference to what it is, what is it's purpose)

Tips:
The last 2 pages of each annotated bibliography can be point form with page reference and statement identified. Do not present merely the conclusions or the general idea of the article. Do not merely rephrase the abstract. Include all commentary, analysis, or opinion. Reconstruct the logic of the argument (which may require you to veer from its original design). Reconstruct a tight, logical argument to enhance the writing of the precis (idea A leads to idea B that leads to C, the conclusion)

* I will include the critical essays that you can pick 3 with a similar theme to use *
* Each annotated bibliography is 4 pages, totaling 12 pages.

Format: pages 1-2: precis and critique of the critical essay
pages 3-4: point form analysis including all requirements mentioned above

This format is done 3 times, 1 for each critical essay. Do not put them together in 1 essay. They are 3 separate assignments. All required documentation will be included. If you need anything else please let me know.

I ABSOLUTELY REQUIRE THIS TO BE COMPLETED IN 5 DAYS. If you need an example of the precis and an example of the points (last 2 pages) that I'm looking for, I will send it.

Essay Instructions: Assignment Quote:
"Please read carefully Tsitsi Dangarembga's novel 'Nervous Conditions'; then turn back to its first paragraph where the author tells us several things about the book that follows. Threating what she says as a descritption of her intention, write an essay in which you explore the usefulness of her description for making sense of and interpreting the book. As you work out your position, I have no expectation you will find that authorial intention is not a solid footing for interpretation. You may--but my only expectation is that your essay will judge the solidity of that footing. In other words, test the relationship of what an author says about her book against the book itself."
