Shale gas, an energy resource that could be dated back to 19th century, is now increasingly becoming a significant source of natural gas in the United States. With the rise of fossil fuel energy depletion, shale gas has come into the forefront of the global energy sector. However, due to the nature of shale gas extraction and its tedious requirement of maintaining constant access to water supply, many countries are left to ponder which can afford the aquatic luxury to withhold such an industry. I would like to talk about the effects on the energy market and the impact to coal (coal switching to gas) that arise from the development of shale gas opportunities. I have a great interest in the topic of shale gas technology as I constantly wonder which would be the rising popular alternative to natural gas. In addition, it makes me ponder in whether China would be consider this industry worthwhile in investing, as they are currently one of the largest coal-burning nations.

Based on this article I am looking to research the current state of supply and demand on natural gas and also look forward to have the supply curve and demand curve will behave in the future. My thesis is that supply is building and technology will continue to develop to increase supply and make it easier/cheaper to get natural gas. On the demand side as companies begin to manufacture goods that use natural gas will increase thus increasing demand.

Supply and demand of natural gas from a micro economic standpoint is the main issue of this paper.
