Title: A Rose for Emily

Total Pages: 10 Words: 4383 Bibliography: 10 Citation Style: MLA Document Type: Research Paper

Essay Instructions: Journals or more credible than magazines; cannot use Internet sources outside the Alabama Virtual Library.

Need 50 notes
1. each has to have the author's last name and page number from the source
2. direct quotes on notes

If using online sources, a printed copy of the source and contents have to be attached.

Here is the proposal and outline:

“A Rose for Emily”
I. Preliminary Thesis: William Faulkner shows that “A Rose for Emily” is a love story and a mystery.
II. Love
A. Emily and her father
B. Emily and Homer
III. Mystery
A. The house
B. Death
IV. Conclusion

Research Proposal: I chose “A Rose for Emily” because I understand what happens in a small town and how people act who live there. I have known people who are a lot like Emily, her father, and Homer. The townspeople remind me a lot of where I grew up. How they know everything about everyone and that they know how to make it right. They talk behind backs and smile to the faces.
Emily loved two men in her life: her father and Homer. At first, she did not want to believe that her father had passed and she never let Homer leave her. She developed a case of feeling not needed or wanted when her father died and that was to never happen again.
I hope to prove that William Faulkner brought to life a character that was real and alive. He developed items and ideas that symbolized not only life and love but living and dying. “A Rose for Emily” is a love story and tragedy built in one.
