SMART Goal Setting Basics

Purpose of Goal Setting

Sometimes students begin college without a specific plan or direction. Without a plan, many students waste valuable time, energy, and money on classes or pursuits that provide little benefit. In order to be more productive and achieve more, it helps to set goals in your personal life, for your future career, and also concerning your academics. Decisions you make today can have an impact on your long-term goals.
Criteria for Effective Goal Setting
Goals are more than good intentions. They need to be concrete and have timelines in order to be effective.

Use the following criteria to establish your goals for maximum benefit.

S-M-A-R-T- Goals

S ? is for specific
Avoid creating goal statements that are too general, for example: I want to lose weight, or, I want to save some money. The more specific you are, the more likely you are to work towards it. Try answering the five ?W? questions to get a clear picture of what you desire: Who can help me? What do I want to do differently? Where will I work on this? When will I devote time to it? Why is it important to me?

M ? is for measurable
Measuring your progress as you go gives you even more incentive to reach your goal. Set timeframes for your accomplishments. For example, I want to lose ten pounds by the end of this term.

A ? is for attainable
If you are attacking a large goal or one that might take a long time to achieve, it helps to break it down into small steps. When you meet with success in small measures, it builds your confidence for the long haul.

R ? is for realistic
Unrealistic goals can become discouraging when we can?t achieve them. Set goals that make you stretch a little, but are still within your grasp. Use common sense when setting your timeframes.

T ? is for tangible
Tangible means something you can touch, or experience with your senses. As it relates to goals, you want to have a tangible reward for your hard work. Find ways to pat yourself on the back when you?ve made progress toward your goals ? you deserve it.

Essay Instructions: 1. Personal statement (essay) : 1 page
2. Two questions: 1 page

1. Personal statement (essay):

Goal: Please provide 200-250 words (1 page) that provide a statement of purpose for your application to university. Include a summary of your background, education, career, professional goals, and your reason for applying to the CRNA program.
Your essay should exhibit CRNA shadowing experience, ICU experience, financial and academic preparedness, and the emotional fortitude to progress through a demanding nurse anesthesia program.

My comments: I provided the information that you can work with in order to write a personal statement. It needs to be put together as an essay as 1 page format. I am looking for a beautiful, focused, brief and advanced writing that comes to life on the page and offers insight into my character and personality. It should highlight my ability to adapt to a stressful and demanding educational process. I want the committee members to know about my intellect, motivation, professionalism and passion.
Feel free to write me If you have any questions.
Thank you
